Caravan towing recommendations - Surrey

Hi,

My wife is keen to get a caravan and I have never towed before so keen to get some tuition.

The camping and caravan two day course looks great but its 2 hours drive away in conventry.

Can anyone recommend anything in Surrey? I have looked at Matt Price but that is 300 quid for 3-4 hours and I dont think thats enough tuition to get me confident.

The caravan club courses are really good.

I had a refresher last year for reversing as i Censored the van coming out a site in Crewe. Have towed for years but was just complacency on my behalf.

I would search for a trailer towing course near you , then see what they offer.

The guy that took my Caravan club course ran his own business teaching towing , might even be worthwhile searching for an HGV instructor as they often cross over into tin tents.

You need to be confident on the hook up side too, not just the driving, caravan club course would be a pretty informative session Thumbs Up

If you have never towed anything then it’s definitely a good idea to get some lessons first.

The other thing to bear in mind is the choice of caravan. Don’t pick anything too humungous as your first foray into it. Get something manageable then upsize in a year or two if you need to.

Actual towing in a straight line is not a problem with even the biggest vans and a FF. it’s one of the most stable tow cars out there. It’s the manoeuvring which is a bit tricky and takes getting your head around. The caravan club courses will cover a lot of the basics as well as the actual driving…..

There’s is stuff to learn about caravans as well as the driving. From how to set up, to how to empty the loo, connect the water, electric and heating and then make it all work.

Good fun to be had tho. 👍🏻 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The Caravan and Motorhome Club have courses in East Sussex and Hampshire, which might be closer for you.
