Mild Hybrid ??

I must be getting old, my son has just upgraded his discovery 5 to a new D350 Defender after 6 years of trouble free ownership.
He tells me that it is a “mild hybrid “, but I have never heard of the term and keen to learn .
Please can anyone educate me better than Google which suggests the term differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. .
Thanks

It wont help with reliability........

Its just something else to go wrong and need replacing under warranty

MHEV vehicles just employ a small electric motor and battery, which is charged via re-gen from engine braking. They cannot run on electric power alone, but use the electric motor to increase overall “power” of the vehicle and general lower emissions.

As opposed to PHEV….larger motor, battery and plugged in charging, solo EV running if required.

….and then pure EV…previously only offered by Jaguar in the JLR portfolio, but forthcoming Landrovers soon. L405 2017 TDV6 AB

No idea tbh

But hired a ford kuga hybrid a few weeks ago, did 340 miles in it and it cost me 45 quid to refill the tank, quite impressed with the performance as well.

Next car will most likely be a hybrid of some sort, but the sc is still going strong and turned into a bit of a triggers broom.

AFAIK the JLR MHEV system is an electronic supercharger that increases the pressure in the turbos at low RPM.

So less lag, improved response/drivability, more power lower down the rev range and better economy.

As above, it’s a 48V motor that provides mild assist and does the stop/start stuff, fed from a little battery that charges under deceleration.
