Advice sought re LR Service processes

Hi all,

Seeking some advice please on ways of working in LR, and possibly other, service centres - Just to put my mind at rest.

My RR is in to a LR Service Centre to have someone actually diagnose and fix my restricted performance issue - previously diagnosed at a 'specialist' but not LR garage - who then quoted 5 times the book time to fix it. (secondary turbo shut off valve)

Dropped it off Monday morning at 8am, described the issue, gave him all the paperwork from the previous garage re their diagnosis and accepted that they will want to do their own - I agree they should.

So end of day 2 and called them up for a progress report and they said 'we're still looking into it'.

Am I to assume my labour costs will so far be say 2 X 6 hours (yesterday and today) of 'looking into it' or am just one of many cars thats 'being looked at' at the same time?

The reason I ask this is that I also have a loan car (Audi A3) at £35 per day - I'd much rather someone look at it, and didn't stop looking at it, till they identify the issue and fix it without more daily loan car charges.

Can someone please set me straight on what I should expect for what they are charging me?

Thanks in advance (and moan over..!) Ash

No. It is not 'still looking into it'. It means it hasn't had a technician look at it yet and he's being polite. It probably hasn't moved in the car park.

On the other hand if it really is still looking into it then it's employing Stevie Wonder.

You'll probably be charged a standard diagnostic fee - 1 hour or whatever it is. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

Thanks Toby

I hoped as much as I was sweating thinking about the labour charge so far.

It does annoy me a little though that they say I can book it in for Monday but not tell me they probabkly won't get round to looking at it till Wednesday... Sad Ash

Hi,
I’m afraid this is fairly normal and it’s really annoying. I monitor activity on my car when it’s at the dealer’s by putting it into “guardian mode” in the remote app…..and I’m always shocked to see that the car never moves for a couple of days, before they eventually get round to looking at it.

I accept that previous jobs can run on and sometimes get bumped further down the queue by LR assist jobs, but it still frustrates me.

I have resigned myself to being without my car for a week each time, even for minor jobs. Drop it off say Monday AM, it’s finally looked at on Wednesday, needs parts (not in stock-shock!), so “might” be ready Friday.
I thought the occasion when I’d managed to screw a loan car out of them, might accelerate the process so that they can have their car back, but it seems not-same levels of apathy.
It also annoys me that I always specify that I don’t want my car washed (don’t trust them) but it always comes back looking like the apprentice has thrown a bucket of water over it, which they optimistically term a “free valet” 🤦‍♂️
Anyway, rant over 😀. Just enjoy banging miles on your loan car for a few days. L405 2017 TDV6 AB

Thanks Matt,

I thought I was expecting too much but hey ho - the Loan car is nice. A new Audi A3 with only 2k odd miles on the clock .... but its not a RR...

I do hope mine is back for Friday (and the bill isn't too expensive) as I'm supposed to be out shooting all day Saturday. Can't see the A3 being much use where i'll be driving Rolling Eyes Ash
