Exhausts

Has anyone ever had to replace an exhaust on thier FF, I was thinking earlier of the last time I had to replace an exhaust on a car….. I can’t remember.

I think I had to do one on an old Landcruiser we used to have around 2004 🤣

I don’t think I’ve had to replace any parts on anything since.

Skoda owned for 10 years - no
Various BMws -no
All land rovers - No.
Vans - no

When did they start to make them last? I seem to remember replacing them as a matter of course on all the cars I had in the 90’s. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Very true, at a guess it must be pushing 20 years since I can remember having an exhaust rot out.

Maybe the difference in cost between mild steel and stainless isn’t a barrier as perhaps it used to be as I’m assuming that is why they now last, possibly combined with longer warranty periods on new cars so it’s not worth using mild steel which might be toast after 2 winters.

Not sure!

Here's me thinking my SVA sounded mean... maybe the exhaust is just rotted Shocked Laughing

Agree, I've not changed an exhaust since an E30 BMW in 1997.

Not replaced or repaired an exhaust since my Mark 2 Escort 36 years ago.

I suspect main factors are better quality steel in exhausts and less sulphur in fuel so less reaction with water vapour in exhaust to form sulphuric acid. 2021 Westminster Black D300 MHEV

Emissions in general I suspect. We have a petrol MINI, and the tailpipe is still metal on the inside after 40K. No deposits at all!

I repaired a crash damaged D4 3.0 8sp recently and removed the exhaust system as it was damaged in the accident. I had to move the car and expected it to sound loud but it was almost as quiet! Shocked Guessing it was the cat & DPF that muted the sound! Bizarre! Thumbs Up

I had to move my tdv8 with the rear section of the exhaust detached recently ... sounded naughty, but not loud like you say ... maybe a wee project in the future ! ( diverters maybe ? ... Twisted Evil )

Last exhaust I had to replace was an 04 plate mini ... the muffler box delaminated, but it was replaced with a stainless one, but thats the only one I've ever had to replace for corrosion. I think they've been stainless steel ( or similar ) for a long long time now. V8 or else ...
