<SNIP> One thing that surprised me at my renewal with NFU Mutual this year was that insurance cover is excluded if one is driving in breach of drink or drug driving laws, so any third party claim is against the Motor Insurers Bureau (which covers losses caused by uninsured drivers), the insured has no claim in respect of their own loss and they can be prosecuted for driving without insurance as well as for the drink/drugged driving offence. They did not elaborate on whether the MIB would seek to recover from the drink/drug driver's personal assets for money they had paid to the third party, but I expect they would have that right. Is that change being made elsewhere? <SNIP>

I would have thought that'd be the 'norm'? Hasn't this always been the case?

Surely, if a driver is drunk (or under-the-influence of drugs), their insurance would definitely be invalidated - as they shouldn't be driving in the first place!

I'm pretty sure this is the case if the vehicle is deemed unroadworthy as well. I recall a conversation with a colleague years ago, who knew of someone with a fairly new car, which wasn't even due it's first MOT. It was involved in an accident resulting in a massive claim. His insurers had the car inspected in great detail and found it had a leaking rear brake cylinder (drum brakes) - which invalidated his insurance!

Back to the Drink Driving clause - I'll check my insr documents to see what they say on the DD aspect.

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Just contacted Admiral this morning to ask about my tow bar. I was told that a tow bar is not something they need to document…..

I had been through the list of mods on their site you can add and it’s not there as an option so I was assuming this would be the case. The policy expires in a couple of weeks so I made the agent make a note on the file and we are all good.

I went online and also added my change in wheels. As they are not the wheels which came on the car from the factory but are LR 21” for £13 it wasn’t worth not clicking the “alloy wheels non standard” button…..

Just done my renewal quotes online today. Hastings was the cheapest and I’d added tow bar and wheels at the quote stage so at least it’s all good going forward! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
