As I have a battery issue in the current cold weather, I'm interested in keeping an eye on data through the scan tool. With my Autel AP200 I can see live values from the Gateway module. However, as with many values, some of them seem like they might be either unused, or nonsensical.

I have the following values showing, and I wonder if anyone else would like to compare with their values, or just comment. There are references to "Battery" and "Battery 2". I assume that "Battery" Is the primary battery, under the boot floor, and that "Battery 2" is the auxiliary battery behind the panel on the right-hand side of the boot.

Values:
Number of vehicle battery replacement resets: 0 (I assume this value is unused as I can't believe that there have been no resets on a 11 year old car)
Vehicle battery - time in service: 368 s (Clearly the unit is not seconds. But what unit, if anything, is it?)
Vehicle battery state of charge - estimated: 59.00%
Vehicle battery - time in service - Battery 2: 1428 s (Clearly the unit is not seconds. But what unit, if anything, is it?)
Vehicle battery state of charge - estimated - Battery 2: 0.00% (Is this value unused, or is it genuinely saying that the battery is completely flat?)

I will get that auxiliary battery checked, but I have to remove the luggage divider and unbolt its bracket to get at the battery.

Scan tool is a waste of time.

Get a proper battery tester, and test the batteries, but not connected to the vehicle. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

You don’t actually have to remove to test, only disconnect one terminal, but yes it’s a bit of a faff with this cold weather!

If you buy from Halfrauds don’t they fit for free?

I got one of those Kingbolen BM580’s from AE, they are actually pretty decent quality, and now half the price, only about a tenner. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Just did both my batteries, ordered Exide EK960 and EK720 from Tanya for about £250 for both delivered. Not worth faffing about if you are having trouble. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

For a FFRR, batteries are a consumable, in fact more like screenwash than brake pads or oil

Of course we joke about changing a £200 battery like a fresh pair of boxers, but (straying possibly a little OT), surely this is a pittance, compared with full-on EV’s where it might cost a 5-figure sum every ten years or so?

I for one will never go full EV until manufacturers are forced to display the replacement cost of a new HV battery pack on the sales card, this needs to be mandatory, or EV sales will never grow in the way expected, due to deep public mistrust of both mfrs & govt.

Following up on my own post, now I have changed the auxiliary battery and reset the BMS statistics for it:
