Did anybody find out if these Defender 18” steel wheels fit a 2012 l322 ?

I’ve searched and searched and nobody has answered with a definitive answer…..

The original photograph looks like it is a later car from the taillights unless they have been updated.
A few people have thought that they might not fit because of the 2010 and newer bigger brakes but nobody has conclusively said that they don’t.
I’d like to know if they actually fit ???
I.e. has anybody physically tried to put one on a 2010 or newer L322 and did they fit or not??

Cheers

Jez

Jez,

From memory:

The determining factor is the calipers on the front normally. The generally accepted wisdom is that the from the 3.6 tdv8 / 2006 era onwards, they are unlikely to fit but might with a little effort ... and from 2010 onwards they probably aren't going to fit at all.

the 2006 years onwards seemed to bring a larger 4 piston brembo caliper housing compared to the sliding caliper original design ... on things like my old 2008 4.2 supercharged, 18" alloys would not fit due to the front calipers having metal dampening blocks which stuck out beyond the profile of the caliper. it was these blocks which prevented an 18" alloy fitting. Remove the blocks ( or cut them off cause the bolt was seized ) and you could then fit them. Even then, I think the only 18" alloys that could fit were compomotive PD1881 as their inner profile had a cut out to clear the calipers ... which standard 18" alloys may not have. ( I had the compomotive alloys on mine and didn't try normal LR alloys ). I recall them being a very close fit.

From around 2010, and the 4.4 tvd8, the calipers increased in size again to a big 6 piston brembo style, and they just wont fit inside a 18" alloy full stop as far as I understand.

Edit: Found this old photo ... you can see how close it was ... and 2010 calipers were bigger again all round iirc.

I don't know for certain but i would say it is very unlikely an 18" steelie will fit a facelift L322.

AIUI there is only one 19" wheel (style 15) which will fit below a 20". 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand
