It's beginning to bug the neighbours, my alarm seems to go off for no reason - probably once every couple of days. I think it's something to do with temperature changes within the car - but I'm usually wrong

Anyone got any ideas? Geoff

i read somewhere that the bonnet switch/sensor goes faulty or sticks ,might be worth looking at that especially if you've had the bonnet up lately..

Bonnet up lately!

It happened again bang on 8:00am and it woke SWMBO who was having a lie in - so now I have to do something.

Is there just the one on the drivers side?
Just for a test should I remove the plug and short circuit it or leave it open. Obviously a further complication would be if there is any resistive element in there but I guess not.

It's all quiet now as she's go back to sleep  Geoff

Had this on mine. Just disconnect the bonnet switch.

I don't want to count my chickens just yet but the alarm hasn't triggered since I disconnected the bonnet catch. Thanks Stan and Chris for the helpful suggestions. I have to say I would never have suspected it. I'll take it off and have a look at it this weekend and see if it can be fixed, serviced, adjusted - whatever, other than that I'll buy a new one.

I am too busy counting faults on my FFRR (this is the most interesting car I have ever had ) to count chickens - but enjoying every minute  Geoff

Not being one to leave well alone I took the switch off, worked it over with WD40 followed by switch cleaner and then put it back with a rubber foot from a computer stuck under the bonnet where it touches to give it about 2-3mm more travel. Whilst off I obviously worked it, giving it more in's and out's that the average would see in a lifetime.

It's been a couple of weeks and although this is tempting fate it seems to be fixed without the need to change the switch or leave it disconnected.

Thanks Stan for pointing me in the right direction, I would never have guessed the bonnet switch was the problem.


Next thing is the steering wheel tilt, it moves up to the top and sticks there when the door is opened. The motor runs until I flick the stalk in any direction (tilt or reach) but the wheel will be stuck at the top. It's not a big deal as I only normally have it down a cm or so when driving but just occasionally, to keep me on my toes, it sets off downwards with a vengance - however if it does this the manual adjustment works so I catch it and set it back where I like it. I have also started talking to it and so I probably need to sort it out or my affair with the sat nav voice may be in jeopardy - I talk to her all the time

Ideas anyone?

sounds like the motor is running off the gearing or some of the teeth on the gears are missing hence the motor keeps running.. i disabled mine by using the RAC and found it ok getting in and out of the car, unfortunately the RAC only works up to 2005...but i sure i read that the steering can be disabled manually somehow..
