Dealer RR Costs

Hi Guys I have been scouring the internet for a Vogue SE & have come up with a few, but what I have noticed is the massive difference in what dealers are charging for similar RR's, I want a 2nd hand one on 07/08 plate and the price range at the dealers is between £27k & £36-ish for what is the same car with very similar spec, some of the more expensive ones have higher mileage & no DVD RSE in the back so I just don't get it.

I have looked at both the TDV8 & Supercharged version and again massive difference in price, any ideas why Question Mutt

it depends on how much the dealer paid for it and how profit they want to make...

Hi scarey, I understand that some companies will put a large amount of profit across the bonnet but even the LR Direct website has a big difference.

I looked at one on Wednesday 08 plate 67k miles (to high for me) Vogue £32k with that mileage I would expect it to be in the 20's, don't get me wrong this car is not for me but it just seems expensive its not even fully loaded Shocked Mutt

as Scarey says it probably depends on how much the dealer had to pay. In the high value car business it really can vary a vast amount - some come in really cheap probably if they're ex-fleet/lease and no one cares too much about what they're sold on for, others are privately owned & maybe when they swop for a new one the dealer had to give a bit more.
Area of the country can also vary grealty, so you may pay less if you're willing to travel !
I've noticed that many dealers don't list the full spec, so you need to go and actually view.
Ive seen loads of ads failing to list that it did have thousands of pounds worth of extra's - dvds, privacy glass, 4 zone climate etc, rear recline......
You can easily add£5K, even £10K worth of extras from new price, so it all needs to be taken into account.

Re Diesel v supercharged - I would expect the petrol to depreciate a lot faster once it's over 5 years old, so be careful what you spend if you go the petrol route. LR have stopped offering the petrol in the vogue & SE, so you have to buy an Autobiography if you want it which is about £10K more now new. The petrol always was a couple of thou more to buy new anyway.......

Best thing to do is set your top budget and go look at some for your price & a few grand over, then once you've found one that you like haggle down to what you really want to spend.
Don't forget with September coming up, they'll be plenty more on the market once new ones have arrived Wink
If you've found one that's much more than another very similar you've seen advertised I'd take a print out to the dealer and see what they can do to match the price - you won't get if you don't ask & you may be pleasantly surprised at what discount you get offered.

I think the moral of the story is, don't worry too much about the price - spend what you can afford on one you're happy with - come the end of the day you have to realise you'll loose a small fortune in depreciation over the next few years, so make sure it's one you love Thumbs Up

Just remember, it's one thing asking for a sum of money, it's a different thing actually getting it. Eg It is quite common to see 2 houses for sale in the same street- similar spec but one thousands more than the other. It all depends how desperate you are to sell something and how long it has been on the Market. Also there is always somebody hoping to pull the wool over a buyers eyes.

I would suggest getting a rough price guide from somebody like Parkers guide or whatever, then take your time and see as many as you can.

Good luck No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Sound advice from Mikeyjd.

There is generally a reason why the cheaper ones are cheaper. Dealers will usually start with a decent margin across their vehicles, but the longer the vehicle is in stock the cheaper it becomes.

Small things can cause a vehicle not to sell. E.g. a smell of dogs or smoke, more owners than you would expect, unusual colour combination, personalisation that is not to everyone's taste.

Every used vehicle (no matter how similar) will have a different margin across it due to the dealers purchase price, the preparation costs etc etc.

In my experience the cheap unloved ones and the over-priced ones take longer to sell, and it is usually the sensibly priced, genuine vehicles in the middle that sell quickly, sometimes without having to be marketed.

My advice is to set a sensible budget and expectation of condition/history, and then explain to your local dealers exactly what you are looking for and how much. They will then call you (or offer something that they have coming in), at which point you can then ask for a deal.

Hope this helps from an inside perspective?

Morning Mutley,

We've always got that sort of thing coming in, therefore happy to keep an eye out for you. I'm generally difficult to track down, therefore give Jeremy Jackson a call on 0208 992 2299 and he will talk you through some options. If we do have somethign suitable then I will make sure that I review the financials as I do with all forum customers.

James Thumbs Up
