First and cheapest thing is to check battery voltage, it maybe getting border line...

Thanks. battery changed a few weeks ago, all charging good (New alternator last year)

I do have another issue where the fuel gauge only goes up to just below half even when completely topped up (I filled it before the long trip)

UPDATE: Decided to fix the Fuel Gauge issue first. Turns out somebody had done it before but not crimped the connection securely so one of the wires had come off. After fishing about for a while to get the loose wire from an almost full tank I re-joined the wires and the fuel gauge is working normally now.
