Most of the radiator sealing products stick to every surface they contact so best to get it all removed to avoid future clogging as it could all release slowly over time if not removed entirely

Happy New year all

So just an update, Head gasket has been ruled out by the specialist as it is holding pressure and head gasket test has passed.

What the garage did notice when they took the coolant out is that water was like jelly with some hard jelly bits. they said only 5 litres of coolant went in and filled the expansion tank which is not enough apparently. Again it was bled using the air sucking and filling bleed system.

We are guessing that it is probably the rad seal the last owner put in when his rad was blocked. My question is this, what is the best product to completely flush the engine and get this stuff out?

Any help much appreciated.

I've never heard of a product that will clear rad seal. The only way to remove it would be to flush the entier system with enough water which will likley mean opening up the lower radiator connector to backflush etc. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It’s the radiators with their fine water channels that are the problem for blockages esp where the coolant will find the path of least resistance and thus lowest heat transfer. The engine block has large passageways for coolant and will not be an issue. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Are you doing this yourself? You mention a garage has been involved. In which case don't they know how best to approach this?

If you're doing it, it may be worth getting a 2nd hand radiator. A quick look on eBay and they're £40-150 depending on year. Assuming you get a decent one, no rad seal to worry about.

hi sorry, no a garage were doing it but they are in undated with work and have had the car since 18 Dec 24. They have asked to rebook it as they don't have any room. I can do basic stuff but my friend will help as it will save on cost and that money can be used to get little niggly bits done.

i already put a new radiator on it when i bought it.
