Ghost 2 thoughts?

Unknown to me until I collected it, my Fifty has a Ghost 2 installed. Took a bit of getting used to but seems fine and think I have all the paperwork that goes with it, although the instructions don’t seem that clear (or maybe it’s me Laughing ).

At some point I am going to have to take it to a LR dealer (well it is a FFRR Whistle ) and I know there’s some sort of temporary mode to disable the Ghost when the car is in a garage but I have read that it restricts speed, time and distance which might not be ideal if they are doing test drives etc so do I just give the dealer the key sequence for the Ghost or should I set up a new code and then change it back again afterwards.

My other question is whether anyone has had issues with the LR Extended Warranty when using a Ghost immobilizer as I believe it is wired into the canbus system? 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Hi,

On my Ghost 2 the "servicing" code allows the dealer to drive it around, but has a limitation on 30mph & 15 mins, exceed either and it shuts the car down.

That should be more than enough for normal servicing etc. unless you have a road related issue that's going to take more road miles to debug.

In that case I suggest you just give them the code you currently use and reset it when you get the car back.

I've never had any problems with mine, I just tell them it has a Ghost and they understand.

You should have some paperwork from the previous owner on how to change the code etc. and what the service code is.

I just tell them its fitted and warn them about going over 30mph when its in service mode Laughing
Yes they forgot during a warranty job, I had to tell them the code and its easy to change the code afterwards.

The 30mph is not a limitation, I think its the time period of 15mins of being over 30mph
I have in the past picked my car up from the garage with it in service mode & came down a dual carriageway at about 40mph for probably about 10 mins until I got home. Garaged the car & next morning it started up still in service mode

It actually does not "shut the car down" it just doesn't let you start it again once you have stopped it. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Thanks for the comments Thumbs Up

I've looked through all the paperwork and instructions I was given and am going to give the service mode option a try myself over Christmas and see how that works out. Seems like a better option than changing codes when it goes in the garage or giving them my code, which I'd rather not do.

I'd also read online that some people have had issues with remote pre-conditioning as the Ghost prevented remote engine starts but have checked mine and all seems to work as expected. Very Happy 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

my ghost prevents the engine start cabin pre heating, the FBH pre heating works fine.

I did have a slight issue with the ghost when it was in for service one time, the mechanics on a road drive rearmed it and I had to disarm it for them. Luckily I was waiting at the dealer so no issue.

I'm tempted on the next car to have the ghost activate on the gearbox so the engine cabin preheat is still available First time FFRR owner

PITA things! I service cars and they shut down and won't restart after road tests! (no such thing as a 30mph road around these rural parts) tis okay so long as I remember te he... A few customers have had them fail though!

I can imagine that's very frustrating Craig Whistle

Ordinarily I wouldn't fit a Ghost or anything similar as don't like the added complication and my insurers don't insist on any extra security.

As it was already fitted in the car when I bought it I figured I would keep it and see how it goes. If I have any issues with it then I'll probably get it removed. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey
