L405 3.0 V6 Diesel engine idle rpm. What should it be?

Hi
I have recently acquired a 2014 L405 with the 3.0 V6 engine. Does anyone know what the idle rpm should be? I only ask as I was stuck in traffic and it seemed to dip a bit low and cause vibration. Once the revs were increased there was not a problem. Any advice would be great.

Many thanks

Edward

Off the top of my head 750-825 range if it’s warmed up. There isn’t a single magic value as the ECU will decide what it wants to hold it at depending on the perceived load. Ie if you have lights on, heaters going, heated seats on , sat in a queue with your foot on the brake, it will all be putting load on the engine. You can see how it does this when you put it into N when in a queue instead of sitting in D … the engine idle will likely change. V8 or else ...

Hi
Thanks for the info. I'm getting around 650 so wondered why it was that low. No errors or other faults (except the stupid TPMS fault I need to rectify). It was freezing, sat in traffic with heating etc etc on.

Many thanks

So it sounds like you've been in a situation with a reasonable load on the engine, and rather the ecu has let the engine revs drop a little rather than bring them back up. If it does it repeatedly then maybe something worth looking into. If it doesn't then I wouldn't worry too much about it. V8 or else ...

I've never had a TDV6 so could be miles away with this but IF your idle is significantly lower than other TDV6s then perhaps the oil pressure could be low enough at idle to eventually cause some problems?. However if it's no different to everybody else's then I don't suppose it'll make any difference.
