L322 Td6 GM 5L40E Gearbox

Hi All

I have a weird one today. During a Gearbox Rebuild, a new valve Body with "802" Code plate was fitted. Originally there was a "347" Plate Code Valve Body in the Car,l

Since the rebuild the gearbox is hunting in 4th Gear between 25 and 45 miles/hr. It feels as if the TC is locking and unlocking with a 500rpm fluctuation on the engine.

Has anyone had this before?

Would appreciate some input.

Greetings from Sunny South Africa

According to this Sonnax document, the 802 plate code is correct for the L322. The 5L40-E that I tore down (https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/x5-e53...rdown.html) had a 376 plate (also on Sonnax’s list for the L322). However, there’s no mention of a 347 plate.

Hi Phil

thanks for replying. Yes I know the 802 plate is on the list for the RR Td6 with the BMW M57D30 engine.

The Issue I am having with that new valve body is, that it shifts up to 4th gear at about 45km/h and then goes in and out of TC lockup. Aside from being annoying, I fear that the TC lockup clutch is not going to take that well.

Kind regards

George

Do you have access to any diagnostic kit which can measure and record live data? I guess the first thing you need to establish is whether the TC LUC solenoid is being wrongly triggered by the transmission controller, or if the LUC engagement/disengagement is caused by a hydro-mechanical issue with the valve body assembly.

Hi Phil

thank you very much for this most valuable tip. I have the GAP IID Tool unlocked for my Range and my wife's Disco4 V8.

I will get to that this afternoon with my Samsung S8 tablet and will respond with the findings.

Absolutely awesome, how this forum works!

Kind regards from a VERY sunny South Africa

George

Hi Phil

thank you very much for your assistance. With your help I was able to isolate the fault. Was the Gearbox TCU. Had another one here and after fitting it, rig behaved again.

So all sorted.

Kind regards

George
