These units are made by various manufacturers in China, there are several that look identical until you open them up, some are much better than others, the quality varies greatly...

The software is similar, it seems a lot run the same software and it is far from smooth and bug free...

AFAICT Range Rover World are the only ones that have had the software tweaked to their specification and they have got it to run very nearly perfectly....

I have the earlier RRW unit in my 405 and I have to say the software is excellent and everything seems to work fine....

I have it set to automatically connect to my phone, play my music and start CarPlay and load up google maps, it does it every time and works great, when navigating it mutes my music and plays instructions. Siri works fine and controls all aspects of CarPlay.

It will revert to the original system workings and that works fine as well...

I am, probably, going to upgrade to the RRW latest system but I do prefer the integrated look of my earlier one rather than the "stuck on" screen look.....

I know Range Rover world get numerous calls every week from people complaining about a unit that looks like theirs and wanting to get them to install their software, they won't do this as they don't want to be associated with these cheaper units, but it shows the problems that can happen...

So, as is usual, you get what you pay for, RRW are far from the cheapest but if you want a unit that just works then their isn't much choice, they are also in this country so easy to get hold of....

I haven't come across another supplier who have a sorted system but maybe they are out there...

Just my 2p worth....

Thanks all for the replies, took all mine to bits and re-assembled and it’s working again now. Thinking it was around the ribbon cable area but nothing really showed of having any loose connections which is a bit odd.

I think I like the integrated look. The thing is tho, once seen you can not un-see,

Thanks for all those comments. I am still at the 'can I get away with spending the money?' stage. Mine is MY2013 and I had a CarPlay dongle fitted almost immediately after I bought it over five years ago. Can't remember the details, but anyway it has been trouble-free, give or take the odd user error.

My own wish is to be able to drive a USB stick full of .flac format music. Has anyone here done this? The iPod interface is slow and generally dire. Philip in Oxford
Now on my seventh RR (while not quite bringing myself to sell no 6...)

With regards to the mic, place it behind the dash pad next to the little plastic grill for the cabin air temp sensor. I've got the RRW curved screen and the mic can't be seen and works a treat.

Mines perfectly fine, however I use the factory Bluetooth for calls, use the android mic for Google search, Spotify etc. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Well rather than swap for a newer Range Rover I decided to keep the old bus I have as I just had the rear brakes - discs, pads and parking thingy done. Next stop will be one of these simply so I can have CarPlay . Geoff

Has anyone any experience of using the ones where you don't replace the original screen - like this sort of thing. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/10050068662...ry_from%3A

OR as it seems to get better reviews.
