Having spent a few hours at the dealers this week picking up my Fifty Edition, SWMBO seems keen to come over to the dark side and get a Land Rover. She hated the Ewok (wouldn't even sit in it ) and other models were way too big for her but loved the Disco Sport.

So, am starting to do some research and would welcome any views and particularly any recommendations for decent Disco Sport forums (hopefully as good as this one) where I can pick up more info.

Initial thoughts are to go for a 2023 R-Dynamic HSE but at the moment I have no idea about the various models so not sure if thats a good or bad one spec wise? 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

I had a Disco Sport as a loan car for a few weeks back in 2017 when my Westie was poorly and was very impressed at the time but I know things can change over a 7 year period.

Ive had a couple as loan cars and they were fine, and were nice to drive, although the boot lid inner panel on one had come adrift after only a few thousand miles.

I read somewhere about oil dilution issues on the earlier ingenium engines, but this may have been resolved by now. My best mates Mrs had an early one with the ingeium diesel and it did spend a fair while in the garage as far as I can remember, but these are all early cars so hopefully JLR have sorted them by now. They have been around a while after all.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Go on the disco sport forum, you will find out what the newer models are like fuel dilution wise.
I had an early diesel the fuel dilution was horrendous, lucky I had free oil changes throughout the warranty period. Otherwise a nice car found it better than evouque if I down size, would consider again but would have to be petrol  2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

You don't say whether you're considering the diesel or petrol / hybrid. But assuming it's the 2.0 Diesel you're looking at, then...

If you're not planning on keeping it outside the manufacturer's warranty period, then you'll hopefully be fine with regard to potential expense due to reliability issues.

However, the 2.0 Ingenium engine has a terrible reputation for turbo failures and timing chain issues (even with the later 'beefed up' timing chain and tensioner design). Failed DPF regens / Oil dilution is one of the contributing factors to those issues, but so also are poor quality materials, according to what I've read.

If you're buying new (or new-ish), and not keeping outside the manufacturer's warranty, then these issues may not affect you immediately, but they may well affect the vehicles trade in value further down the line!

The trade are very wary of any 4cyl Ingenium engine right now, with good reason - just do a quick search on Google / YouTube!

For example, consistently at auction recently, I've seen 2018 /19 Evoque's making less money than older 2015 Evoque's (fitted with the more reliable 2.2 Duratorq engine). It's got so bad, that some auction houses add a warning to the description if a vehicle is fitted with the 2.0 Ingenium (4 cyl) engine!

My advice would be to look at the reliability concerns of the diesel engine, before making a purchase decision.

I've joined the Disco Sport forum and done a bit more research on the model. Generally it seems that the Disco Sport is well regarded but there are reports of issues around oil dilution in the 2L diesel ingenium. Having said that, I'm not unfamiliar with oil dilution and mitigated the issue in my SDV8 with more frequent oil changes and will do the same in my D350.

SWMBO seems keen on a MY24 as it has a nicer interior (and the colour she wants only became available with MY24 ) so will likely be looking at 73/24 plate, 5 seat Dynamic SE/HSE. There is no longer a petrol option, except the 1.5 3cyl PHEV which is a non-starter for us so it will be the D200. Service intervals are 21k/2yrs but being of the old school (+oil dilution) I won't be taking on board LR's view that you only need to change the oil at 21k miles so will do my own interim oil and filter changes at around 7-8k anyway with any DS we end up buying.

What Car review is interesting, the DS scores well in almost every category except reliability, but then that's really a view only based on survey data, which I know is technically valid but only serves as a relative indicator compared to other vehicles. Besides, we'd have the balance of the new car warranty and probably extend that for a few years to provide some comfort on any major problems. One thing which makes me chuckle is that these media reviews don't always recognise that most people will make an emotional decision about which car they will buy, so suggesting that a Hyundai or Kia might be a more practical car than a DS completely misses that point.

With Christmas approaching I think it will be the new year before we get a chance to look for something in earnest. At the moment there is only 1 listing for the colour SWMBO wants but she's not in a hurry so maybe Jan/Feb just before the reg change will see more availability.
