My new 4.4L TDV8 Vogue SE

Hi everyone,

Relative newb to the site.

I picked up my new (2011) L322 yesterday Very Happy and promptly drove five hours back home - without any issues! So claiming an early victory.



On paper it looks like I scored a real gem! Full Service History and a 100% MOT Pass Rate, which I cannot say about any other vehicle that I've owned(!). The maintenance history is truly impressive, which is why I decided to take the plunge - even though neither the interior or exterior colours were my first choice. Hopefully this 'head over heart' decision will pay dividends and I won't be cursing that my Great Dane has dirtied the pale interior! (Note to self: add a dog guard to the shopping list). To be honest; I'm not even sure he's able to jump into the boot, so I may be worrying over nothing Laughing.

Early indications are that I'll need a new battery soon. I think the lack of use/short test drives whilst it was for sale have taken their toll. I had a couple of low battery warnings: immediately after pulling away from the buyers (didn't pop-up for the test-drive - that would have been too advantageous for the negotiations!); and then at the services after filling the tank. I'm hoping that the five hour drive may have helped, but I'm not holding my breath...

One other early job may be to check if the breaks need bleeding? In the last year it's had new brakes all around (including Discs/Pads/shoes) - even the EPB has been overhauled. So I suspect they're not shot and may just have not been bled adequately? The pedal seems a bit long, but maybe it's just my lack of appreciation for what is required to slow a three-ton brick?

24hrs down and no buyers' remorse - quite the opposite! I'm grateful that it's the weekend and I can really take some time to start to get familiar with it all.

Please don't go far - I'll likely be calling on your collective wisdom soon.

Love mine. That does look tidy..

They are a little sensitive with the low battery warning, so I’d try a recharge before you do anything.

Need brakes bleeding properly so may be worth getting to a specialist to do that for you.

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement guys.

So far I've just been enjoying the simple pleasures of poking around and seeing exactly what I've got. No nasty surprises so far...

Frustratingly; the key to my Westfalia tow bar is stock in the barrel. When the tow bar is installed (and snaps green-to-green); the mechanism won't turn to allow me to remove the key. I left it to soak in WD40 and tried the next day. I thought I was winning as it seemed to be turning slowly, but it was just the key-head shearing off(!). So now I have a snapped key; stuck in the seized lock Rolling with laughter

I do have two spare keys, so I'm going to persist with trying to get the key out, so any tips/suggestions welcome. If all else fails I'll need to order a replacement barrel.
