Not quite understanding what you're experiencing. Are you saying there's a change after the start or that its not working how you'd like it to?

When underway I just press Set+ and Cruise is engaged at current speed. It will be adaptive cruise and defaults to the longest buffer zone distance. As I hate adaptive in most situations I then hit the narrowing key (Right hand button) three times to reduce the buffer to the shortest, then keep holding the key down to switch off adaptive. It then works perfectly as a traditional cruise. If I want adaptive back - eg for a motorway queue - I just hit the wider key (Left hand button) once and adaptive comes back on. Mike - MPx

Just to be pedantic, it defaults to three bars but you can get it to four bars with the left gap button...

I know it's a marmite issue, personally I use it all the time and four distance bars seems to be the best way to use the queue assist feature, makes it a smoother experiance.... Thumbs Up Pete

Don't think you can disengage adaptive to standard cruise in a MY2014, think this only became available in MY2017 on. You'll find if you press min distance (1 bar) and hold, nothing happens! L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Just switch it on and knock it down to the smallest gap. Annoyingly if you lose any of the sensors that it relies on, such as a height sensor on the suspension, it just disables the cruise totally instead of letting it operate as non-adaptive Censored

The L405-vintage adaptive cruise implementation is pretty crap IMO but like with all this tech in cars now you learn how the system works and adapt your driving to suit how it’s going to react in various situations.
