Yes, Hydrogen isn't the answer. We've looked at it for HGVs and the energy loss in manufacturing it means it really isn't viable. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

It's a free country chaps, only time will tell. Just saying you will never get me in a milk float, and in my view Hydrogen will compliment BEVs and in time it may take over, who knows.

Pass, too much money and poor range even for a flying brick. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Sign me up! No more oily stinky diesel, no more stupid EGR/DPF/SCR/Oil Cooler/leaks/smell/vibration issues, less moving parts, instant torque and likely way more power and ability to leave my house with a full tank of fuel every day. I do not see any draw back - well apart from I won't be stumping up for a brand new one because OUCH!

Glad they have not gone mad with blue or yellow accents, lets hope they depreciate like a stone so I can pick one up in a couple of years

From what I remember in the 60's & 70's milk floats were definitely Battery and from what i know there was no hydrogen milk floats, but happy to be corrected!!

Abridged and high level (read poor lol) explanation =

A hydrogen fuel cell car is a BEV, the difference is the hydrogen part catalyses and electricity is produced, to power the electric motor. Great system as by product is water but has a lot of downsides also, you need a hydrogen tank to start, which means less space for packaging meaning less space and you still need all the components from a regular BEV.

The simple explanation is this adds complexity and reduces space. The storage of hydrogen (currently at least) is extremely energy inefficient and thus the cost of getting it to your car is expensive.

Remove the expensive storage/delivery, remove the tank and complexity from the equation and what are you left with?

Electric vehicles, no energy storage middle man with far greater efficiency. This is why, outside of heavy trucks where packaging is less of a concern, without radical advancement in storage/delivery of hydrogen it is literally never going to happen as it makes absolutely no sense and articles pushing this as usually funded by a certain think tank with opaque funding from oil companies.

Could happen one day, but for now it is DOA.

I was a milkman's "boy" back then. And yes, they were indeed battery powered. Recharged overnight at the depot, should you forget to plug it in at the end of the day, then come morning you had a problem.

As an aside, if we think the current crop of EV batteries render their vehicles excessively heavy, they are mere lightweights as compared with the huge boxes milk floats of yore used to drag around the neighbourhoods in which they operated.

Think ottoman - a large one.
Two of them.
Each.

Should there be any companies still operating vehicles of this sort, do not get into a collision with one.
It will go badly for you.

They are built like brick outhouses.
