Should I swap now

Just had a call from my trusted Indie, car in for service and MOT. Needs a few things doing (rear brakes and parking brake) and a couple of hours fault finding (parking aid defunct) so the bill is already £1500 plus VAT should I be swapping before next time as it may get really expensive? Oh and what really bothers me is that they need to keep it for another day might be a week next time.

It is a bit old and a newer car would give me Appleplay - always coveted that. Geoff

Hi Geoff,

Do you mind me asking is the £1,500 plus VAT just the service and MOT or does it include the repairs they are suggesting?

Jon

I wasn’t actually complaining about the price as it includes sorting out the parking brake (not that I ever use it), new discs and pads at the rear plus a couple of hours trying to find what causes the parking aid error plus of course the Service and MOT. VAT will no doubt be added but it’s getting on and there’s a few niggles I need to sort out so I think Stans right it has to go. Geoff

Just for clarity when Stans suggests a new one it will just be a late 405 as I don’t really like the new ones. Geoff

No worries Geoff, thought it useful for some context.

Changing a car is a personal journey that has many different decisions points, if money is not a consideration then obviously a newer version of the car might present less long term challenges. I tend to keep hold of cars longer as I get to know their maintenance needs and over time try to do more myself than paying someone else.

I guess if you can afford to change it then it might make sense but it depends for what? Is it a case of the devil you know?

J

Thanks, Sadly the days of doing my own maintenance are long behind me (I could do with trading in for a new model according to SWMBO Rolling with laughter ) Thanks to our Rachel the money I was leaving to my kids in my pension will fund the purchase. Geoff

Actually am tempted by this one but it doesn't have steps (SWMBO essential)

I've seen that in the flesh as it is near to me. It's an interesting colour but imho, one that must be kept clean to do it justice. It wouldn't look the part with a layer of grime over it.

Nice car indeed. First time FFRR owner
