Will I never knew that Graeme. Rather strange really considering it's putting less stress on the gearbox when sat in traffic.

It's only for the rotary gearshift on the 8-speed. It's a shortcoming in the circuit board / component design in not providing for either a higher wattage resistor or larger solder pads for the resistor so that the resistor doesn't get so hot.

Also worth noting is that the 8-speed's torque converter mostly disengages at idle so as to reduce fuel consumption whilst idling, particularly for when stopped in traffic. This also causes the TC to disengage when idling along slowly which causes the vehicle to loose momentum very quickly, necessitating more throttle to re-engage the torque converter. The 6-speed's TC stays engaged which keeps the vehicle moving whilst the engine is idling which is great for idling along in carparks.
