Exhaust gas temperature L405 2013 Euro 5 3.0 Diesel | |
Thougt I'd document this fix of my faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor. I had troubles finding out what the different sensors was as the description they got in gap iid tool doesn't make sense at all. My issue was a intermittent error causing yellow engine light and reduced power. I cut the bad wire, soldered it back up with a fresh wire and used crimp tubing with glue that also makes a weather seal. Wrapped it in alu/butyl for heat protection after. Error is gone.
To identify the sensors I had to heat the engine as all sensors is showing 100C when cold. The faulty sensor was sometimes showing 160 so that one I could figure out by unplugging when it was cold. The others I heaterd the engine so it showed 120-150C and unplugged sensor by sensor. Hope this helps and I got no clue if its the same on the euro6 cars so this is for euro5.
Exhaust gas temperature - Bank 1 - sensor 1 - Pre dpf, right side of the vehicle
Exhaust gas temperature - Bank 1 - sensor 3 - Post-dpf, most rear sensor, connection on gearbox end
Exhaust gas temperature - Bank 2 - sensor 1 - pre catalyst, left side of the vehicle
Exhaust gas temperature - Bank 2 - sensor 2 - post catalyst, left side in the middle of cat/dpf.
The picture is borrowed from this page that describes the exhaust systems on L494 but it's similar on this vehicle so I used it for illutration and help.

My issue was at the end of the gearbox where the sensor had been worn to the metal causing intermittent issues.
