Glove box fuse access

Started fitting a dash cam today and got stuck at the point where I was looking to access the fuse box in the passenger glove box. The handbook and videos I've seen show the right hand stay being unclipped (which I have done) and no mention of the left hand stay. In any event, I can't see how that would unclip.

How hard do you have to push to lower the lid when the right hand stay is disconnected? I don't want to break it!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Mike

Mike do you mean the panel directly covering the fuse board? I'm not sure about any 'stays' there are two clips top left and top right as I remember. Pretty stiff too. Gently prise the clips down then pull the cover towards you.

You might find it easier for access to remove the whole lower glovebox if you're running wires. Quite a few screws but much easier access.

Greg Cheers, Greg

Greg,

Thanks for that. The fuse box lid looks simple enough once the lower glove box is dropped into its "service" position. The trouble I'm having is getting it dropped to that position so the back of the glove box is obstructing the fuse box.

I hear what you're saying re removal, but I'd also like to resolve how I could check a fuse by the side of the road. The handbook shows full access to the fuses by unclipping the right hand stay.

Got it!

Handbook is handed for a LHD car I think. Stay unclips left, not right as per page 235 of handbook. Once you sort that out, its easy, even by the side of the road. Photos attached for the record.

Top photo shows access with lid in service position.

Next shows what I thought was another stay, but looks like the hinge mechanism.

Final shows stay and hole it lives in. The foam gave it away regarding direction of travel.
All in all, I would have been better not bothering with the handbook!

Pictures rotated when uploaded so top as viewed in post is towards the centre of the car.

Ok so it's the glovebox you want to drop. The stay has a barbed end so open it as normal and it hangs on the 'stays'. Then pull the top end of the stay towards the opening of the box. I think that's right for both. Only proviso to this is that I'm saying this from memory. I can check mine in an hour or so. Cheers, Greg

I didn't know you could do that. Does it apply to all models/years ? .

Not sure. Do they all have a lower glove box?

Bit of a thread resurrection….. my glovebox seems to want to drop fully down if you put anything in it. I studied the pics above and deduced that the hanger arrow bit that you move to get it in a position to access the fuses that goes through the hole, isn’t staying fully to the right and springing back a bit, hence not much purchase.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I did think of putting it in place and then wedging something in the hole to stop it moving, but then realised that it moves up and down as you open the glovebox….

Thanks

It seemed to be made of plastic… was a bit wary of doing that. Will investigate further.

bend it gently , IIRC towards the centre console, making it a little past when it will "insert" into it's slot. then just help it into the slot Cheers, Greg
