Dealer offering tracker / imob as part of sale

Hi All,

Possibly about the acquire my first RR and have been in conversation with a dealer about a car which looks promising (Early l405 SDV8).

As part of the deal they've offered to have a Thatcham S5 tracker / immobiliser fitted at no additional cost to me. I believe it is this system here - https://smartrack.uk.net/smartrack-5-imob/

I'm all for additional security and peace of mind, and of course I'm happy the dealer would offer in the first place, but there are certain aspects of this system which seem like they could be troublesome if not 100% reliable etc. I'm also not against paying £18 a month for a great system, but what I'm trying to avoid is having something fitted to the car that I then later regret, or wish I'd had something different fitted etc. No experience with a device like this so thought I'd reach out for opinions.

Does anyone have any experience with one of these systems? Any thoughts or experiences would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
F

Thanks @caymanblack that's very helpful.

Just out of interest, I've seen there is a "service mode" which sounds as if this essentially disables the immobiliser for as long as needed whilst the car is having work done on it, have you ever used this?

Is the live tracking as fully fledged as they make it out to be? Sounds like you can essentially see where your car is on a map at all times and get alerts for movement etc.

Thanks,
F
