Service light

Hi All, question about the service light, just bought an l405 4.4 Sdv8 and got it serviced the car has done roughly 1500 since the service and the ‘service required’ light has came back on. Any ideas it was reset after the service. Thanks

Oil dilution caused by failed regens. Put the kettle on and read this thread.

Thanks will have a look, but surely the car isn’t going to need a service every 1k miles. That’s nearly as bad as the fuel consumption 🤦🏼‍♂️

I only do very short journeys, I mange 12 months between services, approx 6-8k miles by monitoring the DPF and never stopping while it is regenerating. We shouldn’t have to do this, but we do. My Volvo had the same problem. Should really drive a petrol car, but couldn’t afford to run a 5.0. 2017 (67) Vogue SE Corinthian Grey

Yes definitely shouldn’t it’s my wife that drives it, hard enough task getting her to monitor the fuel guage so no chance of her monitoring DPF data 🤷🏼‍♂️

The same thing happened to me earlier this year - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic70699.html

I think they forgot to do the service - but nothing I could do to conclusively prove it, so I did my own oil & filter change & moved on with life - no point getting too stressed Banging Head

So gave the car a service reset all the counters went on a 100 mile journey a roads and the next service mileage dropped by 1300 miles. The car should have been doing any regens as the type of journey. So by that calculation the car will need serviced every 1500 miles.

No. If you reset the service it should say 16000 miles so now yours will be 14700.

Most of us get a yearly service with a DIY oil & filter change in-between. overfinch modified

To the newbies on this subject, I have been monitoring this for 2 years, and with short daily trips, (typically 2x 8 miles per weekday, & 50m weekend runs), 3.85 “service” miles = 1 driven mile.
So 16,000 service miles equals 4155 real miles, and a service “required” less than once a year, (but done twice a year to mitigate dilution).

4k would be twice a year which is not the worst. Can’t believe the difference from the L322 4.4 tdv8 I had serviced it every MOT roughly done 8k a year in it.

Silly question, one of mine (L405 2013) was serviced about a month ago and they forgot to clear the service light is there a procedure to clear the service reminder please?

Hi DrF, yes it’s in the WM in the Wiki above……

Involves Morris dancing round the car 3x, holding certain buttons on the steering wheel, opening and closing bonnet & doors, et voila! Laughing

Will try to locate, but no doubt someone cleverer will beat me to it…. Embarassed “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
