You could call in on an “aqueduct “ as you pass the Pont du Gard, now that is old and new together within a few miles.

I think it probably is, all the newer bridges in my neck of the woods like the Mersey Gateway and the afore mentioned Humber Bridge, hell I even went to the new Forth Bridge simply can't compare.I need to get out more Rolling with laughter Geoff

If you go to visit the Millau cable stay bridge (I don't like viaduct but accept that it meets the definition) don't forget to remind the French that the architect was a brit, Norman Foster! Rolling with laughter

PS a viaduct can also carry water, drinking in roman times and canals in the Victorian era as two examples. There are plans to build one here in Derby to carry the canal over the river.

I walked across the very top of the Pont du Gard as a kid. Dont think you're allowed to do that anymore. Sad V8 or else ...
