Of course it would get planning permission, they would build the first four or five spans, then scrap the project

I always thought the roadway / railway / pathway had to be supported from underneath to be truly classified as a viaduct. Like the classic brick arches we so often see.

I'm wrong, I must hand back my Civil Engineering degree immediately! Good job I'm retired...

I think most are missing the point the Ribblehead was built by the Victorians I suspect the longer ones are newer. Its a bit like comparing the Clifton Suspension bridge with the Humber Bridge  Geoff

The Millau bridge is an incredible bit of engineering especially when seen from the countryside around it. For spectacle, when you’re on it, I think the Pont de Normandie takes some beating.
