Yep just zip tied out of the way to test it. New hella fan, bearings and belts all on their way so will update the thread when it's done.

Notice the hammering marks on the fan nut, could have been physically damaged when they changed the water pump in its previous ownership (found the receipt for it).

Hello there! I’m having the exact same issue as you were describing and trying to resolve in this thread. Did it ever have any conclusion? I haven’t tried disconnecting the viscous fan yet, but I indeed replaced it and it still persists. Thanks for any notes!

Just so you know, in my case it seems that the viscous fan is functioning normally. The diag shows its engagement and disconnection without a problem. Still not sure though. I guess the only way to say is to physically disconnect the fan and do the test drive. Still finding some time to do that.
