Make sure you loosen and retorque ( 140Nm) all your wheel nuts after a visit to KwickFit ( or any tyre fitter for that matter) as mine were overtightened even though I saw the fitter checking them with a torque wrench. I suspect they fit them with the air gun and then just use the torque wrench to check if any are under tightened. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I guess some info posted above relates to Verde summer, while the point is to compare AS to AS. Verde AS first hit the market in the l322 Ford age - in 2009, so all “economy, rolling resistance, most advanced technology” etc. marketing slogans are dated. Zero’s were presented in 2016, way after Tata l405, so logic says marketing slogans got a generation more advanced. I’ve purchased a 2019 p400e with 119k km on clock with Verdes AS DOT (3019), so supposedly they are still the original tyres with 3 circles around the globe. I am very dissatisfied with my experience with Verdes AS PNCS as the road noise is horrible. I expected nearly silent drive in EV mode, while I’m getting annoyed by horrible humming in between 20-50 km/h. My W221 petrol powered drives quieter than RR and I somehow do not want to accept it Smile BUT I’m trying to think it is because of the tyres (mile)age. Haven’t checked the thread depth, but from the first glance it doesn’t really look bold. So I will replace them with Zero’s AS PNCS (and downsize from 275.45.21 to 255.55.20) hoping that noise is nothing more than tyres. Why I decided Zero’s? Well, marketing… 2016 technology vs 2009, but lastly, Zero’s have “A” for fuel economy, “B” for wet driving and claimed 69 db noise, which is hardly believable, against “C” / “B” / 72 db for Verdes AS.

Ah Walter, but in Bulgaria you have a lot of droney concrete roads vs our silky smooth, pristine aircraft-grade tarmac here in the UK? Whistle

Actually, I do completely agree with everything you said, and were it not for have to buy 5 all at once and throw 3 perfectly good tyres away, I would change to Zero’s, although the 22” Verde AS PNCS seem quiet enough for me (without my hearing aids at full chat) Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Yup, I'm not blaming the tyres generally, I'm sad with my specific ones, I do not really think that "all" Verdes are like mine, otherwise people would not be buying them and LR would not even be fitting them. With Zero's, I'm not chasing for "sportiness", I do prefer chill & calm cruising, its just I want something newer. I recently got a set of Conti AllSeason 2 for our city cruiser EV Mazda Mx-30 and oh boy AS tyres came a long way, they are absolutely fantastic, and they hit the market just a year ago, here's where "newer = better" logic comes from.
Will share my experience with Zero's in a couple weeks/hundreds distance measuring units.
P.s.: was even thinking to get Conti AS2 for a RR but since nobody mentions putting them to RR decided to stick with what LR recommends.

This is my 3rd set of Verde's and each time I changed everything was a noticable improvement - comfort, handling / feel and road noise. Possible explanations are old vs new rubber, full vs <4mm tread depth or Pirreli improving the design without changing the name. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Agreed it’s unlikely the Verdes are still “old technology” because (a) PNCS didn’t exist in 2009, and (b) A 22” version also didn’t exist in 2009. I’d have a free set of either! Laughing “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I replaced a noisy set of Goodyears on my early L322 with AS Scorpion SF2s a few months ago. Verdes are not available in size required. The SF2s are rated at 70db and have B and A ratings for fuel efficiency and wet grip respectively. Alternatives were Vredestein QuatracPro+ but as the Pirellis came in at only a few £s more for better stated ratings, especially for noise and also wet grip, I went with them. Be interesting to see how long they last, I expect the Vredesteins have the edge on longevity. Directional tread pattern looks a bit modern and sporty on the older model but have become accustomed to it, they work very well and the cabin is a much, much more serene place.now.

Zeros fitted Friday afternoon. Done about 200 miles over the weekend. So much nicer ride and noticeably quieter than the Verdes that came off. Which admittedly were 4 years old and almost worn out.

I need 4 new 19” tyres for my L322.

Put simply I want the most comfortable and quiet of the Pirelli range.

What should I go for?

I have found the options a bit confusing, all season v summer (I guess summers can handle standard British winters as had no real issues with my current 2019 set of zeros).

Verde v Zero. Sounds like zeros are a newer design unless I am mistaken?

Speed rating, V v Y… 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

IMO All Season tyres suit UK conditions best as summer tyres start to loose their wet braking performance below 7deg c. Speed rating is irrelevent IMO on an L322 unless you have an 5.0SC and regularly hack across german autobahns. Verde vs Zero? - either will be good and very few people have swopped new verde's for new Zero's or vice versa to have an informed opinion. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

…and he seems to rate Verde all season as ‘a must’.

Is he right in saying that they are the newer tyre development wise? He says they are fitted as standard to the L405. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

The Verde's were newer when he fitted them ages ago. Zero's are newer still but that doesn't mean neccessarily better as they still make the Verde and they haven't replaced them. I suspect the Zero is marketed at the 'performance' SUV owner. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
