Collecting Used l405 from MD - any advice?

Hi,

Very excited to be picking up my 19 plate L405 5.0 SC AB on Friday morning - pics will be shared Smile

Any advice on things I need to do with the dealer on hand-over, any checks, paperwork to get etc.? This particular dealer is not local to me, but I of course will have 12m User LR Warranty, and I plan to keep this going during my ownership.

Things I’ve thought of are evidence of 165-point check, MOT & Service paperwork, checking and getting paperwork to prove they’ve done the security update. Anything else?

PS - this IS a car I’ve test driven, and nothing obvious came up in the test drive, I tried a few things during the drive like A/C, heated/cooled seats, suspension up/down etc.

Thanks! Toby,.

Based purely on my experience, the past MOTs. And the tops of the rear pillars where the upper tailgate closes. And the tyres at 5 years old, side walls as well as tread.

Looking forward to the pics Thumbs Up

Battery, state of health and state of charge, if its been sitting around on a forecourt. Ask them for a printout from their Midtronics battery tester. May save you a couple of quid, with winter coming up. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

If you're intending to continue with the LR approved warranty in future years then ask the MD for at least an extra year, giving you 2 years peace of mind.
They may want to charge for it but in my experience the extra year is much cheaper through the dealer than waiting a year and then renewing yourself.
When I bought my AB I was charged around £600 for the extra year, compared to the current renewal of around £1700. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

If it's being bought from inchcape (group 1) then take advantage of their three year extended warranty which is exactly the same as the LR one. ... - .- -.

Having just done the same thing, here are my suggestions

Make sure its properly cleaned and paint rectified
Check all tyres - I got new ones put on in the deal
Check the soft door closers work
Make sure the tailgate is aligned
Fluids
Accessories all present and working.
Make sure the warranty, In control and MoT are all properly done
Get the V5 receipt from DVLA on line in the showroom.

I bought my car from Stratstone in Milton Keynes, so about 100 miles away. They did everything I asked and were good to deal with. Had no issues since.

On the warranty, i took the 12 months. Asked about an extra year, but they wouldn’t do it, I suspect because i pushed the price.

I would add,

1. Check the sunroof drain points

2. Make sure the LR assist is in your name (you never know when you might need it!!)

3. Make sure the hifi/nav is clear of any previous owners and works, can't remember if the 19my needs a sim card if so take one and get them to set everything up (sim reader can be temperamental (one of our fellow forum members will chip in with requirements)

4. Check make sure you have the locking wheel nut

5. Print out of service history and for good measure might as well ask them for a print out of the build sheet

Then enjoy Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

All of the above plus,

* The rear centre armrest top. Sounds nothing but they all break and £600 plus to replace.
* The previous owner will need to be removed from the car for the inControl app to work properly which links to the sim, updates etc. Not a biggy as LR customer services will sort it but just saves the hassle.

With all those things to consider it could be the longest handover in history. 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

Oh I had a huge grin on the 2.5 hour trip back from Milton Keynes to home, even went out of my way to go to a football match in Brackley. You’ll love it I’m sure.

Great drive from Carlisle home. Went via Peak District and the Tan Hill Inn, but it was in the clouds, so visibility terrible! Car is awesome Smile

(keyless entry disabled until Ghost is fitted)
