Beating/rubbing on the rear axle, TDV8, 3.6 Mj. 2008

Hello from Hamburg,

for some time now I have had a beating/rubbing on the rear axle, driving on or when accelerating, so when load comes onto the rear axle.

I have now exchanged the propshaft centre bearing from the cardan shaft, this was a bit loose out, but also not torn.
Last night I did a test drive which didn’t go well - no improvement whatsoever, the beating noise is still there.

Has anyone ever experienced something like that? Could someone kindly give me some advice what else to check within the vehicle and which part of the car could cause this?

Thank you.

Greetings Sebastian

Hi, have you checked all the brakes including the handbrake shoes, a broken spring or clip is not uncommon as they get older and can cause some noise from the rear as the shoes can rub, also make sure the callipers are free and not binding, IE one side getting hot after a run.
Less common, did you check the universal joint on the prop shaft when you changed the centre bearing, a tight spot on these can also cause issues.
