Just received an invitation from LR to 'Drive the next generation'.

FL2, D4, RRS & FFRR are all pictured on the inside. Don't know if it's just me, but the picture of the FFRR makes me think someone has tried to make it look more like a RRS at the front. It seems to have a horrible bolt-on front bumper which has come straight from an 80s hot-rod mag. There's the obvious gimmick of LEDs at the front and wheels look like bling 20" items. Overall I see nothing to inspire me, but probably lots to make a RRS driver want a FFRR. Given that a brochure shot is meant to get me thirsting for more, I have to say that I'm happy to stay at home.  The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

I have the same booklet in front of me. have you seen the new FFRR in the flesh? have you read about the new toys on it? I'm driving one on Saturday, will take and post as many pics as I can for everyone's delight. Discovery 4 HSE

My FFRR TDV8 is less than six months old. I've not seen the 'new' one in the flesh and I'm certainly not interested in toys. I just can't understand WTF anyone would spend FFRR money on gadgets like a two-way screen.

This is still essentially an L322 FFRR with a slight facelift and some additional gadgetry. The D4 is still basically the same as the D3 but with an extra 300cc.

Forgive me, I have an old mobile phone (somewhere) that makes and receives the occasional phone call. It doesn't do Internet (that's where my PC comes in handy), take pictures (I've got a camera for that), or work out my share of a bill in a restaurant (can do arithmetic perfectly well).

Put another way, I'm a Luddite!!!  The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Just been to my LR dealer and been inside one of the new cars, a SC. I could start it up and everything.
Now I must say that I returned pretty happy. Not because of the new car, but because now i'm really convinced that I made the best buy. The 2007my-2009my really are the best ones. The new car really is fun with all that gadgetry, but it all wears off 5 min after you're in. On the outside, the new front bumper is really ugly, and it seems that the car sits lower than mine. On the inside, I prefer the ''foundry finish'' of the center dash of my car and also the thicker buttons. The new ''Audi-esque'' buttons don't go very well with the car.

On a plus, i liked the new ipod interface, but the graphics of my car's display are more old school but better understandable.

Also, it seems that the new cars have more optionals. On my time the optionals were on a base of SE, HSE or Vogue models. With each model you had a certain number of extras, meaning the vogue had everything. Venture cams, etc... On the new car, even if you buy a vogue, which now is called vogue + (vogue SE in some countries) the dual screen is optional, venture cam is optional, multi parking cam is optional, etc....pretty crappy... It seems i'm buying a BMW or porsche were everything is optional. You enter the dealer with one price on your head, but end up paying 10000 or so more....

Suddendly, if i'm to win the lottery, the 2010my will not be my first buy. I'm pretty happy with mine.

In the Times he said he had just bought a 57 plate VSE...

Strange, as he was on about the new multi cameras, looking at other drivers, whilst stuck in London traffic and how it would be good in summer and female drivers.

Think that was his review on Top Gear .....

The other day i saw a 2010 SC.

Today I went to another dealer showroom and saw the 2010 TDV8. Of course its the same on the outside as the SC but somethings that i had noticed on the SC i confirmed with the tdv8.

First of all, i had comented that the car seemed lower, and that is not entirely true nor false. The thing is, the new hood is much lower than the one in my car. Its about 5cm lower. It means that the hoods slides down on much more steeper angel than in my car. That is what really ruins the front of the car... It loses its presence. It kinda looks like a Sport RR front. They had a RRS in the showroom, and the front of both cars is at the same height.

Now what really shocked me big time were the brakes. NO BREMBOS

They've swithed to the old kind of floating single pot brakes. Now thats really really really really really bad.

And finally it seems that the steering wheel leather has been bought in a chinese shop. It has a totally different feel to the old leather. This one feels like a merc c220 cdi wheel.


Come on Tata men.... Don't increase the price of cars and still take out features. I know you guys need more operational results, but not this way.......................

hummm, don't really know....

Haven't yet tried the new brakes, but even if they are more powerfull, something which i doubt, it still feels like a downgrade from the 2007-... models.

''Good'' cars from any marque always have fixed calipers, except of course M bmw's, that still insist on using floating calipers on their cars, something every car mag complains about. But for them it seems that they are deaf when it comes to brakes. They usualy overheat and rumble after a few stops, but...........

You could buy a 2007-.. with brembos, and at the time it was raved that the tdv8's had the supercharged suspensions settings and brakes such was its performance.
Now you buy a 2010 with the same type of bakes that you see in a Hyundai. It kind of gives the idea that its not already the powerfull machine it was. It seems like the entry level car, which it is not. On a RRS tdv6, ok. On a RRS tdv8 or a FFRR tdv8, it just doesn't seem right.

Brembos, if bought on the outside should be around 3000 €, maybe for LR cheaper. This ones you can buy for 500€ or less for LR.

Somehow the powerfull talk strikes me as some marketing cost saving scam.

Maybe the format is the same, or even the same part, but the way its arranged is different.

When I saw the SC, it was on its lower setting. So, it was just a idea, but the TDV8 i saw was in its normal setting. I measured it with the usual ''waist/belt'' line and had a 5 cm variation with my car. 1-2 cm is normal, but 5 cms is significant. 5 cm is not just a ''belt'' or body positioning variation.

Nevrtheless, opinions and/or pictures are welcome....
