PHEV High Voltage Heater

I'm on the lookout for either a Range Rover or Range Rover Sport PHEV. The vast majority of my mileage is short journeys but with a few 500+ mile trips per year thrown in, so the Hybrid suits my needs.

I'm looking at approx 2020 cars so outside of LR Warranty.

From my understanding they are pretty solid cars, but i am reading a bit about the High Voltage Heater being problematic and some cars need them changing relatively frequently.

Is this something i should be concerned about or is it a case of the vast majority being fine and just the problematic ones getting mentioned on the internet?

It really depends on your luck. On the 2020MY I-Pace we changed the HV heater twice. The one on the Range Rover still works. It is the same, but maybe it's used less, although 80% of the time we use the car in electric mode...

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like you're usage is similar to mine (80% electric).

So i guess i shouldn't be completely put off a PHEV Land Rover because of the potential heater issue, just cross my fingers and hope for a good one Very Happy

On that subject, does anyone have recommendations for a third party warranty which would specifically cover a PHEV?

As this is a known failure, if it occurs, you could ask JLR for a "goodwill gesture" and they might cover at least some of the costs. For the 2nd failed HV heater on the I-Pace, they paid 60% of the replacement price (the first was changed during warranty).
