My car is 3yrs old next month so will be out of warranty (wish it had one of the 5yr VIP ones!!). Main dealers own warranties seem to range from £850 - £1000 per annum. I noticed the £1000 warranty does not cover the likes of the TV/DVD/CD etc ( I had the DVD changer replaced under warranty the day after I bought the car at just over a year old ) which are some of the items I would have wanted to see on the covered items list.
Has anyone else got an opinion on extended warranties, as currently, I'm thinking that if I don't get one , I have £1000 towards my first bill anyway.

IMHO the LR extended warranty is worthless, there's more they don't cover than do. I decided to save the £1100 and notionally put it towards any repairs. Discovery 4 HSE

Tesco seem to offer quite a good one

Tried tesco as my borhter -in-law had a D3 and said they covered more thatn the LR extended warranty for less money, however, I put my reg. into their quote system and it said they could not cover my car. Does not give a reason why though.

Hi again. Strange thing, put my car reg into Tesco system this time round and it worked fine, the only thing I altered was the value of the car (as I noticed their warranty pays up to a max of the value of the car, thought I'd put a more realistic value on it). I now have 'Tescos Finest' (premium) warranty (they do these like their food - value / standard / finest) for £419 and covers basically all my non wear n tear mechanical parts (excludes pipes/hoses/mountings etc) and seems to be worth the outlay. Also covers me for MOT failures an e.g. given by girl on phone was wiper blades which aren't covered by the warranty , except when MOT related. I'm still working out the specifics of the MOT part of the warranty though.
Another interesting point is that Tesco use the self same West Yorkshire company as LR do for all their extended warranties! Steve

I would wait until you have to make a claim before you sing their praises.

Mine came with a WarrantyWise warranty that doesn't have an exclusions list because it covers everything says Quentin Wilson!

They didn't cover me for my water pump, susp' ball joint, dead pixels, coolant level sensor, rear washer or steering column!

So basically it wasn't worth the paper it was written on! However - I hope yours is better! 

When I read through the Land Rover extended warranty agreement the main thing thst stood out that they just didn't cover at all was all the AV stereo stuff, and if it DID go wrong you can bet that it wouldn't be cheap at all to fix.

Since my warranty expired the only thing I have had to fix or replace was my rear washer wiper motor which I replaced today in fact. Total cost £119. I plan to sell my old motor on ebay as someone may be able to fix the issue and I may get some money back on it. Cheaper than spending £1100 or £400 on a piece of paper.  Discovery 4 HSE

We'll have to see. I also noticed that the entertainment unit etc was not covered on any warranty from any source, but still decided on a warranty simply for the mechanical side alone. I've had them in the past and they've been Ok, the most memorable being a claim for a coil pack on my other car that came in at a staggering £1490 (3 coil packs + interface unit) at the time (1996) and the warranty company paid a max of £1000 per item. They forked out the £1000 and I secured a 20% trade discount off the GM dealer so had to put £200 towards it in the end. The warranty company were renouned for arguing every claim but I got the money out of them. Steve

Hi folks, put my first claim in last week when my suspension failed. Guessed it would be the usual valve on the compressor and it was. I initially thought of doing it myself but thought what's the point so took it in the garage and the Tesco warranty people happily OK'd it and paid the parts and labour bill. I'm guessing that as it's the same people as LR UK use , then they are more familiar with what is and isn't a warranty claim and so are quick to OK them etc.  Steve
