Rear camera replacement 2019 car - my story! | |
Hi,
I thought it was worth me mentioning my recent experience with the rear camera on my 2019 AB, that has done 68k miles.
The rear picture was very blurry and not much use. I removed the camera, which was pretty easy, just pull off the trim across the tailgate and then pull the camera housing out and unclip the camera connector and washer pipe. No tools needed !
I then removed the camera form the housing. It has a rubber cover which i took off and I found the camera was very corroded, so much so that the lens had detached itself from the camera body.
I was surprised at how bad it was, interestingly there was a lot of dirt behind the trim piece as well, so I cleaned all that out.
A replacement was needed.
A new one from Land Rover, was £540 which is ridiculous. Part number is LR098720.
So I bough one from a UK supplier, it said it was a quality item however it did look a lot like the ones being sold out of China., it was £180.
It arrived and looked ok so I fitted it. The connector was a tight fit but it went on. It worked ok but the picture was very blue compared to the other cameras.

The Ebay supplier said the cameras were quality checked and should be ok and maybe water had got into the wiring so I went and tried the old broken camera and the picture was definitely not blue!
The seller was quite good to be fair and they did take the camera back and gave me a refund so all good aside from the wasted time and the cost to post it.
In the end I found a second hand one on ebay, in the housing from a breaker for £73 which arrived the next day and works perfectly!
So in this case the moral of the story is to avoid cheap Chinese junk.
The replacement 2nd hand camera also had some corrosion, so I cleaned this off and put a smear of grease over the camera body.
It would be worth checking your own camera as some care now will prolong it's limited life ! 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black
