Anyone know where this is supposed to fit?

Hi All,

I replaced the front to rear brake pipes on my 2011 TDV8 last year. When I removed the nearside front wheel arch liner this rubber 'filler' piece fell on the floor. I popped it to one side to fit later as I couldn't figure out where it went.

Fast forward a year, and I've got the liner out again whilst replacing a front mudflap that's split.

Thought I'd best pop this part back in its rightful place, but have no idea where it's supposed to fit, anyone got any idea? Thought it might be for the FBH, but no suitable or safe place for it to fit that I can see. Now thinking it's something to do with the A post or door jamb?

Thanks - Jon.

Can you advise what the codes on the piece are - 'tis a bit hard to read them in pic.

Usually the part no. is embossed on the art and one can identify its location from that. Ron B. VK2OTC

Hi Ron,

Long time, hope you're doing well? Think we last spoke on the Aulro forum when I lived in Perth, now in the UK again.

Had to get my magnifying glass out to see the numbers myself, they are:

BH42-02457-AB

Also has a shorter code of R80FA embossed on it as well.

I've googled those numbers, but to no avail. My machine with Microcat on it has gone up in smoke and I've moved over to the dark side and bought a Mac!

Thanks in advance,

It appears to be LR part no LR022713 but where it fits is not entirely clear from a search. John

I saw a post of a similar item somewhere, it was a safety bar to be used when removing the full size spare wheel, there was a strap that bolted to the bodywork behind the spare. When you wanted the spare out you engaged the other end of the strap to the lock recess of the lower tailgate then lower the tailgate, the strap tightens lifting the wheel up. The solid plastic gizmo is then fitted to the lower tailgate preventing it closing. Hope that makes sense, have a look at your spare if the strap is there then that's what it's for.

Thanks for the reply's guys. I think I've figured this out especially once the part number was cross referenced. I'll take a pic to gauge response on whether this is where it goes, as it's still not clear from the parts catalogues...

** Update **

Given the shape of this, and the fact the part number cross reference identifies it as a wheel arch "insulator", I can only think it fits here:

So clipping over the coolant pipe from the bottom of the FBH and alongside the stainless pipe (which I'm guessing is the fuel line, but haven't traced it). It seems the right shape for this location and even clips neatly over the brake line retaining clip.

What sound insulation it gives in this location isn't apparent to me? Although I have experienced increased tyre noise since it wasn't fitted - although that also coincided with the fitment of new Michelin's which despite their *very* road biased pattern are noisy.

The only thing that makes me think it doesn't fit here is it won't touch the wheel arch liner in this position at all, and I can see it has sticky tape on the back, like it used to attach to something?

Thoughts guys?

Hi Jon

Reviving an old thread here but this may help th next person that finds themselves in the same position.

I had my arch liner off recently and like yours this part just fell to the floor.
Given the shape of it, it can only properly go in one place. Unfortunately yours is not correct.

See my pic below. It fits round the FBH exhaust pipe and goes up to the subframe, it makes sense when you look at the shape of the cut outs.

Thanks James, really appreciate the reply. Thumbs Up

The thing is - Being a rubbery material, won't it melt / burn if it's in contact with the FBH exhaust?

Just to follow on from James' post - here are a few more pictures of the part in situ - propped up whilst I wait for a little bit of glue to dry to hold it in place.

Same as everyone else, mine just fell out as I took out the wheel arch liner.

On mine the embossed number is BH42-02457-AB, and I think that translates to LR022713 described as an insulator.

There is what remains of a sticky pad where I'm guessing originally it was stuck to the wheel arch liner, you can just see this in the photos, rather than the car itself.
