Security Update - 2016 MY onwards.

It’s not often that JLR surprises me in a positive way, but I have just arrived home to a JLR letter confirming that they will be rolling out a software security update for 2016/17 MY 405s later this year. The letter also enclosed a Faraday pouch and further offers free “sleeping” batteries for key fobs - whilst stocks last. (Sleeping batteries incorporate a motion sensor, so power down when motionless).
I’d assumed that JLR had given up on the pre 2018 models, but it appears not, so credit where it’s due!

Cynically I assume the eye-watering insurance premiums many of us now face, have impacted sales of L460s, so it’s a valid attempt by JLR to do what they can.

Impressed. L405 2017 TDV6 AB

Could you please share said letter so we can get the dealers to perform this update?
Thank you.

Mine arrived today, no idea if it’s alphabetical, by area or what, mine is a late 2017.

To paraphrase the letter

1) security updates will start to be rolled out later this year for 2016 and 2017 models
2) in the meantime here’s a faraday pouch
3) enter some details on a website and within 6 months we’ll send some of you a pair of sleeping batteries for you remotes. 2017 (67) Vogue SE Corinthian Grey

Sleeping Batteries

I had never heard of sleeping batteries until this morning. What an amazing invention.
There is a sleeping battery website but I was a bit shocked how expensive they are. About £100 a pair
Still, I suppose it's cheaper than a new car

Nice that they're doing something, but its a bit of a belated 'Er, yes, we'll own up that there are issues with LR security...' 17 MY Corris Grey 4.4 VAB

I tried to book my car into the dealers today (2016 MY) and was told, that they are currently only working on 2018 MY, and furthermore that the letter had been sent to ALL 2016 MY onwards owners.

They said that is was in an effort to get the owner to contact dealers, who would then check the "database" to see if the software needed updating - mine apparently is at the highest version for the year.

I did get to place an order for Sleeper Batteries, with the "… 6 month" delivery warning.

All seems odd to me, but then again, this is Land Rover, or my dealership.

Received my letter and faraday pouch today.

Letter states there will be a further letter sent when the software update is available but as I'm due a service next month I'm going to see if they will do it then.

Also applied for those sleeping battery thingamajigs.

PS - is it slightly ironic that the form they ask you to fill in if you no longer have the car has a tick box marked "Stolen" Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
