United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
2004 L322 4.4 Petrol - Gearbox issue

Hi forum, really sorry but grateful if anyone can help. My car is a 2004 4.4 Petrol
Vogue L322. Gearbox is playing up when accelerating and revs shoot up, car jolts forward and then goes into transmission failsafe limp mode barely moving uphill. Happening regularly and only symptoms are revs going v high and car shuddering forwards then going into limp safe mode. Can anyone help? Hoping a gearbox service and transmission fluids change might cure possibly? Thanks - any help much appreciated!

I admire your optimism.

You have the ZF 5HP24 transmission. Does the car drive fine when cold but then go into failsafe after 15 mins or so of driving (i.e. once the oil has heated up)? Does the transmission go back to normal operation once it has cooled down again?

Phil

Thanks Phil, to be honest it seems worst when cold and was like the gearbox was slipping when trying to accellerate uphill the other morning. Is the gearbox a goner?

When the transmission goes into failsafe mode, the fault that caused it to do so is stored as an error code in the controller. Might you be able to get the codes read and let us know what the error code is?

Phil

P.S. The transmission should default to 4th gear in failsafe mode, which is why acceleration from low speed is so poor
