Ran out of fuel - reserve range issue

Hi all so when I first got my 4.2 supercharged I was used to running my m6 down to the wire occasionally, so when it said range 30 I didn’t bat an eyelid until a few seconds later it died. A year or so later I put a new fuel pump on genuine for other reasons.

Today (4 years on) I still don’t run anywhere near that but unfortunately a service station was closed and by the time I got to the exit with the garage it was down to 30 miles … about 200metres later it lost power and died a death …

How can I fix this why is it so far out? Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

Not possible to recalibrate AFAIK, so now you know, 30 = 0.

May I suggest a larger wallet? :rolllaugh:

I rarely let my FF go under 1/2 a tank to avoid “range anxiety”.

Especially on an older vehicle, bottoming the tank down to the dregs is not a good idea anyway.

Tbf I did the fuel filter on it a few week back and ran it low for that and haven’t really driven it much. Normally keep it higher but I don’t get why two pumps have the same reading surely a fault somewhere?

Also the tank was immaculate couldn’t see any sort at all surprisingly Current stable:
