Remote Key Generations

Hi all,

I cannot seem to find definitive info on the web, and thought someone here would know for sure. I have a 2011 Range Rover TDV8 L322 that I need to get the second key for as the original second key was destroyed. Land Rover want £1,000 !! for a new key!!.

My question is, going the route of a used key with blank blade and getting that re-programmed, can it be either the first or second generation of key? The car originally came with generation 1 of the smart key but now has generation 2 as its smart key. The previous owner obviously had to replace the main key too at some point. Does anyone know if there is anything different other than appearance on generation 1 and 2 keys other than cosmetics? Is it possible to have a gen 1 smart key and a gen 2 smart key on the same 2011 RR at the same time? I wanted to ask before deciding what options I can consider when buying a used key to get re-prog for my car. Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

Hi,

I have no other info, but my 2012 TDV8 L322 has got one gen 1 smart key and one gen 2 smart key and they both work without any problems. So maybe it is only the shell that is different.

Scotland 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Fuji White

Hi, I can highly recommend "RRUK" on this forum, he helped me out with sourcing a replacement key in the latest LR form factor and it arrived within a couple of days.

Now I have both the original "lozenge" key and the latest form factor which is much lighter, both work equally well so I guess the form factor doesn't really matter.

Drop Adam a note, I'm sure he'll be able to advise you on what models of keys work with different MY cars.

I used the links for the key and it took maybe 20 seconds to program>

You can add by IID tool. Alternatively, I have key programming equipment.

I believe the gen1 and gen2 keys are different, however the gen1 PCB can be resized to fit the key shell of a gen2. Aftermarket gen2 keys are supplied "not locked", so can be used on a wider range of vehicles. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
