United States 2005 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Chawton White
AIR. SUSP. INACTIVE/HDC INACTIVE

I drove off from a parking lot for about 30 seconds and at the exit comes audible sound and the message AIR. SUSP. INACTIVE and HDC INACTIVE with yellow exclamation mark on dashboards.
Ignition on/off, driving for 30 min off, then on - did not help. So it has been like that for last couple of days.

I replaced front struts (shipped from Island 4x4) and height sensors just two months ago ($2700 spent on it). What can I do to troubleshoot the problem and resolve it? Fuzes, etc? Else?

I also have ALL COMMS III cable with software and just got used/replacement BCU from Ebay. Should I try to swap the BCU (disconnect battery first), reset settings of BCU after connection and see if it fixes the problem?

If not, what else? Looking for collective wisdom here.

P.S. 2005 RR HSE. Bought for $7500 2 years ago. Spent $10K on repairs.
P.P.S. The most exensive car is a cheap British car....

Chasing similar issues myself for months, my diagnostic told me the issue was the front left height sensor but having replaced it noted both the rear sensors were shot so could be something completely different... helpful in know but don't just blindly follow the diagnostic.

My HDC warning tends to show up if the battery is a bit low so worth checking that and the terminals

Also with regards to suspension i found out that the headlight levelling system also plays a part so another path to explore if fitted (they tend to get moisture in which corrodes the board) and as you are in the US it is behind the panel by your left leg down by the carpet its the grey box)

Scotland 2017 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Corris Grey

Could be a failed ABS sensor. My 2004 4.4 had that, with that warning. If it is that, check whether the cause is a driveshaft swollen by corrosion fouling the sensor, if so that needs sorted too. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I live in a desert - last snow was in April and next one will be in October. If we exclude moisuture induced corrosion, what else?

Sorry I can't help with a part number as I got the dealer to do it, and I no longer have the receipts for that car. It's probably best to get a diagnostic check done first. I take your point about corrosion being less likely where you live. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I had the same thing but eventually went away when I started driving the car more. I had let the battery voltage get real low while I was doing a bunch of work on the car. I charged it back up on a slow charger to where it would start again but it still wasn't 100% charged.

Now after driving it regularly the battery is back to full voltage and the suspension and HDC failed went away.

I unscrewed it and looked at the part number


They are running about $150-$300 on eBay but there is disclaimer that you need to recoding. Do in addition to $150-$300 do I need to buy a separate tool for >$400 just for recoding?

No, abs wheel speed sensor in each hub.

Your picture is your abs unit, if you need to get another there's a module number stamped in the steel part, get one with the same numbers and it doesn't need coding...

You see that big plastic thing, look behind it, the lump of steel with the brake pipes in it, that will have a set of numbers stamped/etched into it, match them up no need to be coded

If you unplug the bottom head nearest the front (pull upwards) there are a lot of pins which make up the plug in part. On mine there was green corrosion on several pins leading to HDC, ABS, suspension lights appearing on dash. A quick clean up with a toothbrush and spray with contact spray cured mine (the Stealer wanted me to pay £1000 for a new ABS unit Shocked )

So do I need to remove the ABS unit first like I did to read the part number?

So you did not even replace the ABS control unit, just cleaned it?

I tried to unplug the cable, it did not work - are there any clips from either side that need to be taken care of to be able to unplug the cable?

Also, did you just unplug the cable or remove the ABS unit first and then uplug the cable?

One more thing and to recap...

When I first time got this problem and turn on/off ignition and checking fuse 56 did not help, I used All Comms II reader. It got me following

Once I cleared both, the ABS valve relay and Front Left Height Sensor Fault did not come back, but Precharge pump and CAN bus Fault remain.

What I am getting here and from other places as well is that these messages are actually cascading down from another issue, most likely ABS and that issue needs to be addressed first. And thanks to everyone who provided useful information.

So this week I ordered this thing hoping that I could get a better insights.

Well, it is going back because... it is made in China, from Chinese company, with Chinese support only at whatsupp. And 'diagnostic report' is uploaded to Chinese cloud and only is this
