Thanks GarryRR, a video review/overview would be great! Be nice to get a perspective of a user who has lived with it for a few months.look forward to pricing too.

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Corris Grey

UPDATE….sorted my issues out with the Android unit. Works really well and a great addition to the original dated JLR set up (which is still there if I need to use it).

Great write up and I used it along with other resources to do the same install on my L405 recently. One question though and I hope someone can help me….How do I reset the system to its original configuration as I seem to have lost some of the functionality. I tried a reboot but may have hit the factory reset by mistake. Any thoughts or have I inadvertently deleted some of the android apps.

Should I just try and reboot again?

I thought this would be good, because that way everyone knows what they're getting before they take the plunge. I'll then figure out a price for supply only and a price for supply and fit.

Thank you Gary,

Very much looking forward to the video and pricing - I'm keen to do this upgrade asap.

Thumbs Up Ash

Hi Gary

As a comparison, here’s my final installation of screen and a/c panels.
Bit fiddly to set up to be honest but I can flip between CarPlay and the original set up. Only glitch is ensuring the radio/source/dvd is set correct otherwise it can result in no sound but that’s because I have rear media fitted as well. Once I understood how it worked all was good!

I took my time so all wiring has been cloth wrapped so reduce potential rubbing and annoying rattles.

Took me around 4hrs to do including the wrapping of cables. I routed all cables without needing to modify any of the original dash (I’ve seen some installations cut out some sections).

I have no affiliation to this link from YouTube but found the information very useful ?si=-ViCO7VDzXDqNBXr

I bought it off eBay from a supplier in china called JoyGPS. I’m having a few issues so at this time I’m not going to recommend them until all the gremlins are sorted out but I paid £1k for both the main screen and A/C unit which I thought was reasonable.
I think at the minute they are selling for around £1250 ish but batter / put in an offer and the price will move significantly
The YouTube video I attached - hope I’m not breaching any forum rules doing that - used a gps splitter which I need and they also had some software to make the unit work a bit slicker
Happy to help out if anyone else needs advice.

Gary - apologies for semi hijacking your thread but it maybe ask admin to get this thread on a sticky as we have both gone through the install process…

Thanks also Mark

Can i ask, in CarPlay’ mode’, do you see ALL the apps on your iPhone or are only some of them supported.

Also, do you still get full Dab radio, presumably when in the original LR screen ‘mode’

I would presume, being an android system, you can also install other apps - but perhaps you could confirm.

Thanks Ash

Right guys, as previously stated I’m not prepared, at this time, to recommend JoyGPS as a seller off eBay. I’m having to many technical issues to hand on heart suggest anyone here on this forum to buy anything from them. Shame as on the face of it the units should do what they say on the tin as they seem to be a generic Chinese offering!

If and when I get any resolution with the supplier I’ll update this post.

One by one

See all apps seen in CarPlay - No - one that was pulled over made me laugh ironically…..it added my Electroverse app for our electric car!!
Radio - original sound remains. But it’s a pain going between modes. It’s easy to get no sound where you end up chasing a solution in the settings.
Add apps - I guess so but haven’t tried. It came with google store so I guess the answer is yes

Hope this helps

Minor update
I’ve found the gps transmitter as supplied next to useless. Good selection of gps signals but nothing above 40 on a scale to 100. Makes the sat nav jerky. Because of this I’m waiting for some splitter cables so I can use the cars gps antenna. Hopefully this will resolve these problems as I know that splitting the original will support 2 and possibly 3 devices.
I’ve added a SIM card to see how that works.
One problem on having to remove the unit again. The 4 screen clips are (on my unit) were really tight and as a result I’ve broken one of the white clips when I’ve removed the screen to get to the gps connections. My screen doesn’t have a ribbon cable connection, it’s a male/female connector. The screen clips are all fine so I’ve ordered a small selection of different clips to see which type is better than the overly tight/secure originals. My intention is to remove the screen if necessary when I need to
Still no real help from the eBay supplier JoyGPS over the weekend but I’m hopeful I get some responses tomorrow (Monday).
Best regards

Evening all

After a long and drawn out process I’ve resolved all the issues I explained earlier in the thread. These units are pretty generic and have the same functionality across all of them. Whether using a UK based or buying off eBay. AliExpress or somewhere else, the support will be dependant on the supplier. The supplier I used wasn’t good so I wouldn’t recommend them personally but I’ve got a system that works really well. I’m happy to help anyone out there who wants to do the DIY route like Gary and myself. The single biggest issues I found were:
Don’t use the supplied gps transmitter. I ended up using a gps splitter cable and the gps strength is great now and resolved the sat nav CarPlay issues - system out again and it’s not easy to release the screen
That said, the screen can be removed but expect to break the clips in the process. I bought a selection of clips before I found the right size.
The speaker supplied is cheap and sounds cheap. This is used by the CarPlay satnav.
Packaging and routing the cables behind the units need a little bit of careful adjustment. There is a little section on the left above the cd player which I used and makes the packaging / routing easier
I wrapped all cables in cloth tape to minimise potential rattles. This takes time you’ll never get back!
Screen settings takes time
Make a note of the original screen buttons as you’ll need that to set up the screen when the system is installed
You’ll need a SIM card to access the internet unless you tether with your mobile. I use both options.
Adding other devices can be done via the 2 usb cables.
Being able to flick between the CarPlay and the original system once mastered is really quite good. Seeing the original sat nav on a 13.3” screen actually looks quite good
In the settings, make sure the Aux setting (in the original system settings) is selected. This seems to the best default setting….well at least for me

Happy to take any questions but I’m only on the site occasionally.
