TD6 goes ok and then goes sluggish

It’s a pain to start, plenty of turning over before finally firing into life. It seems all good until you get it into 3rd, then it sort of goes into limp mode, really gutless and a load of diesel knock on idle.
I have replaced the MAF as when I looked the case was cracked and it was unplugged!
Anyway, that made no difference apart from it is a lot slower from the off when plugged in.
When not plugged in it is fine up to 3rd, then goes all soft and limp. Also, smokes well when not plugged in as expected so I think there is nothing up with the MAF.
I noticed the small vacuum pipe was split (on the os inner wing) so sorted that out, nothing happened but at least that’s crossed that off.
Before I rush off and buy a secondary fuel pump and fit that, any ideas?
Only codes I have is BCM stuck in transportation mode and hvac rear vent stepper inop.
Cheers,
Mart. Current wallet destroyers:

I experienced the same (or certainly similar) symptoms in my e39 530d - I was convinced that it needed glow plugs. As they share the same basic architecture, this should be relevant.

Then one day it just stopped outside my local garage (when low on fuel); I put in a gallon can, it restarted, I got home perfectly and then it died again 300m from home (quite a push to get it back into its parking spot).

It was the in tank pump in my case - I fitted a Marelli aftermarket item from eBay for about £46 and after that it not only started, but when winter returned, the previous poor starting / glow plug-like symptoms were also no longer present.

The original pump sounded okay by the way, only under load it couldn't pump anything!

[edit] I actually bought both fuel supply pumps, but when I listened to the gurgling in the tank when ignition on, I deduced this was the right place to start (and it was). 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDv8

When my TD6 took a long time starting I ended up having new injectors. Garage said it will start fine if one is iffy, but not 2…..

What was the loom thing to the injectors that Wheeler Dealers said was common on TD6? Can’t remember as nearly a decade since I had mine.

When my fuel pump under the sill failed, it just wouldn’t start at all.

Never had any loss of power once driving though…..

Cheers for the replies, I finally pulled my finger out and did some more in depth checks and it was indeed the in tank fuel pump that’s causing the issues.
Thanks again for the input, always appreciated. Thumbs Up Current wallet destroyers:
