To close this thread out, fitting the new anti-trap sensors (located in the trim on each side of the upper tailgate) didn’t resolve the issue.

However as the tailgate vertical alignment wasn’t great (as seems to be quite common) I decided to adjust it & also ordered the revised bolts that attach the hinges to the body (4x RGY501160). The only visual difference is the revised bolts are a 10mm head whereas the originals are a 13mm. The attached washer is the same size.

Apparently the original bolts on earlier MY’s are prone to ‘relaxing’ per the LR technical bulletin, and mine certainly didn’t seem particularly tight, the correct torque is 24nm.

I found the easiest method was to work on one side at a time, detach the power strut, remove the two nuts that attach the tailgate to the upper part of the hinge (you need to remove the spoiler to access these) then undo the two bolts holding the hinge to the body. This way, I could reposition the hinge in its upper most position without the weight of the tailgate pushing it down. I used a suitable length of timber to support the tailgate whilst the hinge / power strut was removed.

On reinstalling everything, hey presto, the power open & close is now working perfectly
