Your car will have the variable damping so your choices of non genuine will probably be limited.

Thanks chaps, if you look at the breakdown schematic there is a stand alone shock, with no part number, surrounded by the rest of the gubbins. I guess the shock on its own does not have a part number and therefore not available. Just thought that by now someone would have figured out a replacement! Should be cheap as chips! |

That sounds like the front shock schematic… not the rear Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Yes, the rears are as above. Mine were changed at Christmas. Got them from Island too. You will need the paper gaskets from Land Rover for the mount, against the body. Says it’s imperative that they are replaced to stop water ingress to vehicle.

Is it ok to replace only LH Rear or you must replace as a pair, LH AND RH at the same time? 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 |

It’s strongly advisable to replace as a pair. They don’t need replacing if they are just leaking a bit of oil as this is normal. Only replace if you have obvious loss of suspension damping. Mine were still working well enough after 170k miles and 3 + years of MOT advisories of dampness. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Thank you JayGee for the answer. Well I am not even 100 % sure if mine is leaking, just saw a drop on the driveway and I still need to exmine, where it exactly comes from.

Dampness is normal but dripping fluid on the driveway (if it is actualy from the shock and not somthing like brake fluid from a corroded line) would be more serious. You should be able to tell by the way it handles if a rear shock has failed. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

If the shock has dark patches on it where the dirt is darker than the dirt that´s dry, your shock is "sweating" oil which means it's time for new ones. I bought mine on ebay.de and they were Monroe ones. You need to swap over the top of the old one, with the steel "bowl" that sits on top of the rubber but it's very easy . https://www.ebay.de/itm/266705980507 |

There is a JLR technical buletin that describes light oil seepage as normal and not a sign of shock failure or need for replacement. It may only be for the later Bilstein variable damping units though. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |
