SDV8 or 5.0 SC

Looking at purchasing FFRR, 2016/2017, and can’t make my mind up. Both have pros.and cons.
Live in rural area, so not a lot of city/town driving, but don’t do a lot of mileage. Leaning towards a
SC. Have had a look on the forum but that just makes it worse. So, need some straight answers, which is best or do I just toss a coin. Any help most appreciated.

Thanks
DCW

Us petrolheads will say SC all day. Response is just better - simple as that.

But those who like their oil burners dont see it and go on about torque and economy. I can see you can make a case for the torque if you do a lot of heavy towing, but any mention of economy and you're not really considering the right car. No fatty offers economic motoring. Mike - MPx

Have you driven them both ?

Most people will recommend what they bought, for their reasons, which may not align with yours.

I'm in an SDV8 because of my mileage profile, as soon as I stop travelling with work I'll be in a SC.

They're both great cars, journey profile dictates my choice, yours may be due to towing, availability or another reason.

Go drive them both, that will help decide First time FFRR owner

The writing is on the wall in regard to diesel. Some manufacturers are stopping ongoing production of diesel cars. BMW as an example are not providing a diesel option on the latest 3 series.

Anyway, that’s not to stop anyone buying a diesel today but I would be looking to the near future in terms of moving it on.

My tuppence worth

Both are good and there is a case for driving both and seeing which you prefer. 4.4SDV8 gives access to Vogue and SE grades and there will be more cars to choose from. But I'd say the 5.0SC was less likely to be problematic than the complex SDV8 with its two turbos, AdBlue and DPF, especially if it has been used mainly for short stop-start journeys, and while my 5.0SC seems noisier than it was when new, age for age it should be quieter and more refined than the diesel and the performance is notably stronger. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thanks for the replies and opinions. The 5.0SC is probably more suited to my requirements and in the long run, likely to be less problematic. All I have to do now is find a decent one. If there is anybody looking to sell please give me a shout.
Thanks
