Clunk / knocking sound at slow acceleration

I'm experiencing a gentle clunk/knocking sound coming from underneath the driver side when accelerating from a slow speed/from a stop e.g. 0-10mph or 5-10mph in my 3.0TDV6 L405. Doesn't seem to be more prevalent if turning left or right, just when driving forward from a stop.

It sounds as though something is clunking/knocking/lurching forward and then moving back to place.

It seems that the sound has only started occurring after I got the cam belt replaced but there's a chance it was there before.

As I'm driving in a city the noise/sensation is starting to drive me loopy as a lot of my driving is at slow speeds/stop start.

Any ideas on what it might be?

Hey,

Something similar was discussed in another thread a week or so ago - there was a suggestion that it could be 'tank slap' with fuel moving around in the tank.

Does it happen more with half a tank or so...? What happens if you have a full tank.? Ash

Unfortunately, noise seems to be there regardless of if the tank is full/empty Sad I thought maybe loose/worn engine mounts but the mechanic insisted they were fine.

Might be transfer case, it was on mine. Empty oil twice and if you have a gap iid then you can calibrate the case 👍

Just an update on the clonking from the transmission,

I have the same problem, MD did a double flush on the rear diff, but no joy they then changed the rear diff, under warranty, which was on backorder for six weeks so I was given a hire car as a replacement (Warranty paid)
I have been driving around with the JLR tec to pinpoint the problem.

So even after the rear diff was changed the problem is still there! the car was then booked in to have the rear driveshafts replaced, It was booked in for 3 days.

They then decided to flush the transfer case and BLACk oil came out also do a software update, and not change the rear driveshafts

It has reduced the clocking but not completely I can still feel it, so I will ask for another flush of the Transfer case oil. as they seem to be on to something. 2017 SDV8 4.4 silicon silver AB

If black oil came out of the transfer case, that suggests it's got very hot in there.

Probably some internal damage causing the clonk...
