Hi all, our 08 tdv8 L322 3.6 has an weird fault, it's to be happening more often. It pulls like a train so turbos must be fine, then with no warning engine fault pops up on the dash and it struggles to do 20mph with full throttle, stop turn ignition off then re start it's then fine for another 30 or so minutes. I have scanned it with my icarsoft LR3 and no codes, this happened with the caravan on the back 3 times over the weekend so need to fix it asap, I was thinking sticking turbo actuator but then it would be gutless all the time so thinking some electrical gizmo may be at fault, there is no smoke or drama when it does it and as soon as the engine stop turning over and you re start it back to full power, any ideas, may be I need a better code reader but the icarsoft did me proud on my Mercedes |

Thanks for the tips, hope it's pipes not manifolds?, will give it a try when I get home at the weekend and report back, thought it would have at least stored a code or engine light pop on? |

When my intercooler hoses was split it didn't show an eml, it won't show a fault code after you have stopped and restarted the engine, it will when it goes into limp mode then plug in your code reader the code will be there. I also had the driver's side inlet manifold crack too, I lived with that for a few weeks, I just didn't boot it and it was fine, obviously it's now done and goes like stink. Do you get any heavy black smoke out the back when you floor it? That's usually a good indication of split hoses and cracked manifolds. |

No black smoke even if I floor it, doing some further research I agree with your guess, never been able to scan it when it does it as it always seems to do it on the smallest twisty lane, will look for any black tell tale soot on the engine cover and check the hoses. If it is the manifold it's a tough call do I repair it or scrap it, she pulls well and starts on the button but not worth a lot but if I buy another tow vehicle may end up with other peoples problems, will see what I find at the weekend, on the plus side got loads of gas leak detector fluid from my time at National Grid, safe a few quid lol |

After checking all pipes and the inlet manifold all good, towed from west wales to north wales and it dropped into limp mode 13 times so getting worse, it never does it when I could pull in and read the code before re start, now no limp mode when not towing, its mad just cant find the fault so think I may have to part ways with the old girl as it was bought for towing the caravan |

A "proper" JLR diagnostic tool will go deeper than your Icarsoft.. Before condemning the fatty it maybe worth paying for some diagnostics, especially if it will fault frequently...

Good call Haylands, will Google if we have an Indi locally who has a GAP iid it if there is a fancy pants dealer not tool, as she pulls like a train so can't be turbo and as soon as you turn it off then on it's great again but the trip to North Wales was exciting always seemed to happen in the worst place so need it sorted. |

Is it related to revs/torque? Mine has a small crack in the drivers side inlet manifold, mostly exhibits itself under towing, just a thought 2013 L405 Autobiography Baltic Blue

Mine did this for quite awhile and couldn't find anything, then a fellow member who was selling some parts said, why don't you change the 4 small inlet manifold pipes....so I duely bought a set online fitted them and it never went into limp mode again......

Not sure where you’re based in West Wales, but there are a couple of independent specialists, one in St Clears and another in Lampeter. Easy to find online. 👍 |
