Wheel Alignment Question

I just had my summer tyres fitted, and they're All Terrains. Now, the car feels like it's pulling a bit to the right, so I'm guessing a wheel alignment is needed.

So, here's my question: Is there anything particularly tricky about doing a wheel alignment on an L405? Would my local tyre shop, which regularly handles SUVs and F150s, be up to the task?

You need to find a good garage who know what they are doing. The L405 has to be put into ‘Tight Tolerance Mode’ using diagnostic equipment such as the GAP IID. Unless this mode is set before setting the alignment it will never be correct.

From what I hear from talking to garages where I have had wheel alignment set, the L405 is known to be tricky to get it spot on.

I also hear people say that the Hunter 4 Wheel alignment system is the best so finding a garage that use this is a good start.

I would ask your tyre shop if they understand tight tolerance mode for L405’s and if they do then it’s a good sign they are up to the job.

It is a setting that can be activated in IID GAP or other software that it sets the car at the optimum position to set up the alignment correctly. If not in this mode I believe the car will try to compensate for any adjustments made and effectively be working against any inputs made by the person adjusting the alignment.

Tight tollerance mode just adjusts each corner to the precise calibrated height value rather than the +/- 10mm of normal operation. For a 'perfect' wheel alignment it's good to have this enabled but only if you have recently done a proper calibration procedure to ensure the reference heights are exactly right. Also a perfect wheel alignment is only possible if all your suspension joints and bushings are in an as new condition with no wear as dynamic loading of the suspension during use is not tested during a typical wheel alignment procedure. It's also possible to do a 'good' wheel alignment without tight tollerance mode enabled as small height variations won't make a big difference to the main values for toe, castor and camber which all have a range of values (tollerance) rather than a single perfect value. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Cheers, JayGee, for the Tight Tolerance Mode crash course. I was on the brink of phoning every tyre shop in town, grilling them on TTM, and blacklisting anyone who didn't have a clue!
