Thumbs Up
The usual reason for rapid soot buildup is an airleak on the intake either at one of the 4 intake rubber connectors or where the large connector attaches to the alloy throttle body. Either check for sooty and oily deposits coating these areas or get the garage to do a high pressure smoke test. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

More soot will be generated when it's cold due to longer warmup times. Also the manufacturers change the blend during cold months to prevent wax forming but not sure if this has any influence on soot buildup but if it's an addative that makes the fuel less efficient it may do. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thank you for your reply. The car is a 16 reg and the previous owner had full service history direct from JLR. So we presumed it was well looked after.

Unfortunately we had already taken it to the local garage. They’d tried a clean and said they werent able to clear it, hence the suggestion of a new part. I guess they’ve gone from option 1-3 on the original post.

I’ve called the Indy garage and they said there’s only been one they’ve been unable to clear so will take it there on Tuesday. It’s either going to be paying for 2x cleans at the two different garages & learning my lesson to take it to the Indy first, or paying for 2 x cleans plus an entire new part.

To be honest I regret buying the car. The engine light came on on my birthday a few months back & I was sat around for 40 mins as didn’t want to drive it and cause further damage (turns out it was ok to drive as amber and not red & was related to the airbag)

Thank you for the car reader suggestion too. I did invest in an Icarsoft scanner. Cant scan at the moment as I’ve left it at the first garage! I think they’d said they’d tried to clear it to an amber to be able to clear but weren’t able to. I’m just not too sure how the second garage will be more likely to clear if the first weren’t able to?

But yes, noted, I’ll take it to the Indy next time to start.

I’m in Worcestershire.

Thanks for your reply!

I've had a few issues over the last 6 months after having a nightmare journey with constant stop start traffic and allowing the fuel to get too low to regen , sorted po40d, had intermittent oxy sensor issue which I replaced (bosch part is £100 LR part is £200 + and is a bosch part !!), after unsuccessful attempts at cleaning on car i took it off (unbolts from LH turbo outlet and cat and 2 cuts in tailpipes ) for a proper cleaning , cost £150 to clean with 2 year warranty , currently it's behaving well and I'm regularly plugging the gap in to check readings but so far so good . Personal advice is take it off and get it cleaned as it's not silly money and you know you are starting with a clean DPF when resetting everything .

I'm in Leeds and the co is ITS turbo's (i've used them for about 15 years for turbo rebuilds) but they've started cleaning dpf's over the last few years , there cleaner is big enough to fit the dpf in with both inlet pipes fron LH turbo and RH cat on so only 2 cuts required on outlets (which i made on the straights that are arbout 40 deg to longditudal line of car before the bends where they go back straight ), they are in Drighlington on the outskirts of Leeds , £150 +vat with 2 year warranty and usually 24/48h turnround , local to me so dropped it off n picked it up a couple of days later. RR is not only transport as have old Disco as works van, dog wagon general run around for muckier jobs , RR is for weekends, long journeys and tugging tin tent or car transporter for work if needed as Leeds is a joke for anything with dpf and rapidly getting worse .(can't wait till i move north next year ).

Logging my regen interval at around 130 miles doing a constant 70mph which is likley a consequence of ash load after 170k miles and toying with having it cleaned. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
